@OneTrueSpur@theJeremyVine@waitrose@MetCycleCops@RoadPeace @AndyCoxDCS Not always. Two abreast can be much safer as it gives drivers less chance to go close. Situation dependent. The rider was three abreast at the time, causing danger to himself and others.
Common sense in certain situations should always prevail.
@theJeremyVine@waitrose@MetCycleCops@RoadPeace @AndyCoxDCS Why did the rider endanger himself by taking his hand off the control of the bike? He know the lorry was there, and choose to endanger himself and others. Riding without due care and attention.
@rdaved@theJeremyVine@waitrose@MetCycleCops@RoadPeace @AndyCoxDCS The lorry wasn’t overtaking, it was driving in its own lane. Perfectly legal. If it was a single carriageway, the law would be different and your comments valid.
@waitrose@theJeremyVine No need to investigate. Your driver was responsible and safe. The rider was causing a danger to himself and others by not paying attention to the Highway Code and causing danger to himself and other by reducing his own control by riding one handed.
@theJeremyVine@waitrose@MetCycleCops@RoadPeace @AndyCoxDCS People cycling in groups
The updated code explains that people cycling in groups:
People cycling are asked to be aware of people driving behind them and allow them to overtake (for example, by moving into single file or stopping) when it’s safe to do so.
