Vendors trading along the busy Trans-Zambezi Highway in the centre of Grootfontein say they are fed up over a lack of an open market, housing, and road development, while clinics have no medicine.

Commenting on the issue of the market, Grootfontein acting Chief Executive Officer Indileni Lungameni said the council is challenged by a lack of funds to fully fund the setting up of a market with stalls for 500 registered vendors on their database.
He added that the council is also looking into a new, cheaper design of a market, as the initial one was set at N$10 million.
The council is also cautioning against illegal vendors who are in breach of the municipal by-laws, which require them to pay N$100 per month for a vendor license, from which funds can also be utilised to set up a market in the town.
