Cy Hardy is on breakout watch heading into next season in the South Atlantic Conference. The 6'0 point guard from Roanoke, Virginia put together a strong freshman season at UVA Wise, averaging 7.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 44% from the field and 30% from three. After a legendary high school career at Northside High School where he became the program’s all time leading scorer and a two time state champion, Hardy’s impressive skillset translated quickly to the collegiate level. Starting 18 games this season, Hardy showcased his ability to impact the game as both a scorer and playmaker. A true three level scorer, Hardy can create off the dribble, knock down the mid range jumper, and finish efficiently around the basket. From the perimeter, he has a quick shooting mechanic and can score both on and off the ball before defenders have time to contest. He is especially effective in the mid range where he rises up quickly and consistently drills tough shots. When attacking the basket, Hardy uses crafty angles and excellent body control to finish through traffic, helping him shoot an efficient 55% from two this season. He also proved to be a disruptive defender, applying ball pressure and using active hands to force turnovers and turn defense into offense. Despite not being the tallest player on the floor, Hardy plays with strength and quickness, beating defenders to spots and making life difficult for opponents. Expect Hardy to take a big sophomore jump and emerge as one of the top point guards in the South Atlantic Conference next season @cyyhardy@UVAWiseMBB@northsidembb@hatfieldsports@BlakeMellinger@CoachBStinson
Flipping over to @UVAWiseMBB and another freshmen getting some run is @cyyhardy nice bucket in the lane for 2, up to 4pts now. Running the point well. Does not look like it's his 1st year in college out there.
