@eddiegabriel923@Ranger2Marchan Yeah I never believe that. In what world does a ragtag team in the marlins (I’m a marlins fan btw) win the World Series TWICE and both times days after winning it all, the owners report “financial problems” and sell the whole team away. FOH we all know the owners pocketed the $.
@davelowitzki@HitmanGFX44@HotStoveintel Baseball concessions have gotten ridiculously expensive. I’ve been going to ballgames for 2 and a half decades. Jerseys are also a tad more expensive in MLB stadiums in comparison to NFL stadiums.
@davelowitzki@HitmanGFX44@HotStoveintel The ticket cost, duh. 81 games played at a stadium a year compared to ~8 games played in a stadium per year. Just in ticket costs, yes MLB is cheaper. I went to a Dolphins game and a Marlins game this year. 2 Bud lights at Marlins, $32. 1 Bud at Dolphins, $12.
@dhbytes@FlashOG83@YANGS1K@JeffPassan Lmao MLB literally won’t allow a sale of a team to a group in current times not worth atleast a couple of billion dollars. Don’t let anybody fool you. The owners of MLB teams are most definitely multibillionaires. I’m also not saying they’d spend close to LA or NY.
@dudeman2266@Dawg69420___@YANGS1K@JeffPassan Why do you say that though? Like legit (I’m not tooooo big into NFL as a whole unless it’s the dolphins) why do you think they’d of never been able to keep their QBs past their rookie deals if it was like the MLB?
@Dawg69420___@dudeman2266@YANGS1K@JeffPassan However, I do see what you’re getting at. I’d have to agree to disagree though. Just don’t believe in a ceiling. If there’s a ceiling for the players, there OUGHT to be one with owners as well, no? Because, without players, you have no product, no product, no fans, no team no $$
@Dawg69420___@dudeman2266@YANGS1K@JeffPassan Also can’t mention the NBA in this when they literally have the best profit sharing program that allows players to GET THEIR MONEY THEYRE EARNED. They (NBA players) are literally part owners/have stakes with their teams/leagues. That’s a whole different ballgame pun intended.
@Dawg69420___@dudeman2266@YANGS1K@JeffPassan Definitely not a BS excuse lmao. I never said they would all go to small market teams, I said small market teams HAVE SPENT in the past.. bringing big name players drives fans into the seats, compounding profits and allows owners to reinvest in their product.
@PaullyG14@YANGS1K@JeffPassan That’s true. They have a helluva team of talent analysts that do AMAZING at their jobs. They did try to extend a player… he just ended up with the WORST charges you can possible have as a professional athlete. I feel that will hinder the Rays from spending real money for years.
@VvKawZz@YANGS1K@JeffPassan I never said that. Refer to 2012 Miami Marlins. They had a payroll back then of around $140m (when the biggest payrolls floated around the mid $300m). They sold the players after one season when they didn’t produce. Promised the fans everything, ran away at first sight of trouble
@dudeman2266@YANGS1K@JeffPassan 2/2 just decimated the team after the first season that they didn’t produce… it can and has happened. There was/is NOTHING preventing owners from incentivizing the fans to then rug pull AFTER they collected payments for season tickets, concessions, jerseys, etc.
@dudeman2266@YANGS1K@JeffPassan 1/2Once again, I’d have to agree to disagree. Take the 2012 Miami marlins. They got Jose Reyes in his prime (unfortunately blew his hammy his first year w the team), Heath Bell (ended up a bust), Omar Infante, Carlos Lee, John Buck, Mark Burhle, Carlos Zambrano… they had top FAs
@zipp46@BrunosEspresso8@FlashOG83@YANGS1K@JeffPassan They had a helluva fan base, especially compared to now. The team still produced like shit but the fans were actually there. Then, instead of giving those teams one more year, they decimated them and “tried to rebuild”. The excitement is there when you have players worth watching
@zipp46@BrunosEspresso8@FlashOG83@YANGS1K@JeffPassan If you ask the fans of ALL of the small market teams what they wish their owners did… they’d all say “spend money, extend players, get big name free agents when available”. That’s what makes watchable teams. Look at the 2013-2016 Marlins. (Continued)
@zipp46@BrunosEspresso8@FlashOG83@YANGS1K@JeffPassan Also, how would it not make more competitive smaller market teams? You’re forced to pay, if you don’t wanna pay after a year or two of getting hit with the competitive tax, fuck it. Make the owners SELL THE TEAM. Or, have a plan and STICK TO IT.
