I agree with Mayor @DanielLurie. UESF and the District are making progress. We need the parties to be at the table and a 3-day period for discussions to continue while students remain in school. We all want our students to succeed.
For the past week, I have been in direct communication with UESF and the school district, and I have continued to provide support from the city to help them come to an agreement.
Both sides made important progress yesterday, and I am incredibly appreciative of the hard work of our educators and the district.
Now, it is critical that they continue the conversation so our kids can stay in school. I have made my office available to both parties, and I have told them that I will be available—day and night, as long as it takes—to reach an agreement that supports our hardworking educators while keeping the school district on the path to fiscal stability.
In the scenario that an agreement cannot be reached today, I have asked both UESF and the school district to agree to three additional days for conversations to continue—that would allow kids to stay in the classroom and the adults to keep talking.
Our students and our parents need certainty ahead of tomorrow. I know everyone participating in these negotiations is committed to schools where students thrive and our educators feel truly supported, and I will continue working to ensure that.
There is much work ahead to ensure financial stability, increase enrollment, support teachers, and rebuild trust. I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners, the Superintendent, and all stakeholders to build a brighter future for our students.
I am honored to serve.
On January 10, I was honored to take the Oath of Office and be sworn in to serve as a Commissioner on the Board of Education.
I take on this responsibility with gratitude, humility, and an immense sense of responsibility to our kids and future generations in our city.
Running a campaign rooted in students and families has been an inspiring experience, and I am deeply grateful to the broad coalition that made it possible.
I look forward to working with fellow Commissioners, the Superintendent, and all of the stakeholders in SFUSD to deliver safe, high-quality schools for all students.
I am honored to serve. Thank you.
I’m thrilled to share the news that our campaign has been successful!
While we are awaiting the final results, it has become clear we are headed to victory.
We, as a City and School District, have a lot of work to do together to stave off state takeover, reduce absenteeism, increase enrollment, and improve outcomes.
We expect the vote-counting process to take some days and are awaiting the final results. I am cautiously optimistic given the reports so far.
