It is with great sadness that I must announce that Ernie Lane, who was 102 this year, having played a prominent part in the life of Rayleigh since his family moved to the village in 1920, passed away on the 13th December 2020.

In accordance with current Government regulations the museum closed with effect from 1st November.

The Museum is fully Covid-19 compliant and is ready to reopen as soon as the situation allows.

#objectoftheweek This bow window measures 6 feet by 5 feet by 2 feet is one of the feature displays in the Museum. Originally located in Rayleigh High Street in a shop named Kathleen’s Hat and Gown Shop, which can be seen in the small picture inset at the bottom.
