Why did SF propose to close the Great Highway when in 2019, a city grand jury determined that Bayview, Richmond & Sunset neighborhoods are "extremely vulnerable to devastating fires triggered by a major earthquake?" BC an impact study was never done. @sfbos@DanielLurie@JoelEngardio@conniechan@RafaelMandelman@mattdorsey@Matt4D7@sunset_united@RichmondSunset@openthegreathwy@josephinez@SFDEM_MEC@SusanDReynolds@EricaJSandberg@TheMarinaTimes
The Great Highway is a major escape route for many west side residents - and now we also know that these same neighborhoods would be extremely vulnerable to being trapped in an infernal bc of the lack of high water pressure extensions (see also recent ABCnews story).
Knowing this - SF is going to face some major litigation if it does NOT provide an impact study. I suggest the mayor and the entire board of supervisors rethink the dangers to our communities - or it will be held highly responsible for its negligence should an earthquake or fire cause major devastation. Cars were left abandoned in traffic congestion in both LA and Malibu fires.
According to the Grand Jury Investigation:
"Thousands of homes in San Francisco's outer Richmond, outer Sunset and Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhoods are extremely vulnerable to devastating fires triggered by a major earthquake, a report from the city's grand jury revealed Tuesday."
"According to the civil grand jury, a seismically-safe high-pressure Auxiliary Water Supply System has not been put in place in those neighborhoods to fight a major fire following a large quake."
"During the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, fires claimed several lives and buildings as they burned out of control in San Francisco's Marina District. Water from fire boats and portable water tenders prevented the devastation from being even greater."
"In the Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, much of the city was consumed by out-of-control fires in the hours and days following the major temblor. Over 3,000 people died and approximately 28,000 buildings were destroyed."
"We know the question is when, not if, another major earthquake will strike San Francisco and ignite numerous fires," the grand jury wrote in its conclusions."

Please help and act now! We need to send a message to the coastal commission to slow down the closure of the UGH. We need traffic mitigation first. The yes on prop K campaign wants the road closed ASAP which is too soon!
We need all of your help. Please sign and share widely.

Wow! @JoelEngardio@Scott_Wiener please tell the Yes on K campaign to stop taking down down the No on K posters on Taraval streets.
We have heard that the No on Prop K posters have been removed and replaced with Yes on K from some businesses on Taraval.
Maybe it’s @SafeStreetRebel?
We will replace them and expect them to stay.
That San Francisco firefighter who badly injured another firefighter with a heavy, 15-inch hydrant wrench will NOT face felony assault charges.
Today, Alameda Superior Court Judge Sharon Djemal ordered 49-year-old Robert Muhammad into mental health diversion. He'll have to continue therapy every two weeks for two years and check in periodically with the court.
As you see in the video today, neither Muhammad nor his defense attorney, Jim Bustamente, would comment on camera. The courtroom was packed with about 50 friends and supporters for Muhammad, including current SFFD brass.
Gabriel Shin suffered two broken arms, a concussion, and PTSD from the January 2022 attack. Court records show Muhammad swung the wrench at Shin's head 10-12 times and only stopped when a neighbor, who happened to be a human trafficking investigator, pulled her gun and ordered Muhammad to stop. Shin described the attack to the judge, but did not wait for the decision. He told me later by phone he didn't want to see a lot of gladhanding, and thought the decision seemed to be a foregone conclusion.
Shin has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Muhammad and the fire department for Battery, Assault, Race and Color Discrimination, Disability Discrimination, Retaliation and more. Shin’s attorney, James Torres, says Robert Muhammad never faced discipline and never missed a paycheck.
You can see an interview with Gabriel Shin and more details on the case here: https://t.co/ai5sZQ8vnT
Therr was an emergency at Ocean Breach on Sunday when the UGH was closed.
While the Yes on Prop K campaign likes to think there isn't an issue, the SFFD makes note of the delay from needing to stop and open the gates and then weave through the pedestrians and cyclists/scooters.
For anyone who is the least bit confused, this should be reason alone to vote NO on Prop K.
Seconds matter - especially if there is an health scare on the beach.
Join us and Vote No on K!
LIVE this morning at SF’s Great Highway, busy Friday morning 8:00am, traffic north and south. Aaanndd, the Promenade ! Already constructed and in use since 1989. Beautiful sunny morning. With @EricaJSandberg and @markdfabela as witnesses. @openthegreathwy
Believe it or not, the Great Highway Promenade is right here, along the beach, in great shape, since 1989. What kind of hoax is Prop K? Has Joel Engardio and Myrna Melgar ever been to the Outer Sunset and walked on the pathway? How can local media ignore this? @openthegreathwy
10 minutes after I left the smashed store on 17th & Balboa my friend and I witnessed a maniac who had just come out from flipping tables in an Asian restaurant at 36 & Balboa he began jumping on windshields, harassing a man, long story short I had to take him down myself!
When Delta asks you to volunteer to check in your luggage? DON’T!! Here is what we’ve got in return by doing the airline a favor. They refused to process the claim as damaged luggage and called this normal wear and tear🤬@Delta @DeltaNewsHub @FLLFlyer
