R-Control will conduct research enabling ground-breaking methods and technologies for effective automatic catch registration along a wide range of fisheries.
ππ£ This video explains what we do in #RControl - which seeks to place Norway at the forefront of research and development of core technology for effective and sustainable resource control in commercial fishery.ππ #SINTEF

By monitoring these metrics, researchers are able to decide when the model reaches acceptable performance, or if it needs more training - and perhaps a larger, more robust training dataset. π¦Ύπ€
How are AI models assessed during training? π€
When a model is trained on data through machine learning, it is usually also tested on a small proportion of the training data, which is called the "validation dataset".

We hope you got to celebrate World Ocean Day yesterday!π₯³ππ
June 8th is an important day for raising awareness and ensuring collective action for healthier oceans. This is a major goal for #RControl, ensuring that new technology is used for the betterment of our #ocean. ππ
In this debate-article published in Fiskeribladet (The Fisheries Magazine), Asgeir J. SΓΈrensen (NTNU, UiT) and JΓΈrgen Berge (UiT) discuss the potentials and problems with employing AI for marine science. πππ£
In fact, during years when the sandeel population is low, fishing of the species is strictly forbidden. β This helps the population grow, and conserves the North Sea ecosystem. π§π
The lesser sandeel (Ammodytes marinus) is an elongated, small fish inhabiting the North Atlantic Ocean. It lives near sandy bottoms, where it spends most of its time burrowed under the sand! ππ

Did you know that AI can be used to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing?π£βπ€
IUU fishing contributes to as much as 20% of total catches, a worrisome pattern contributing to overfishing and imbalance in marine ecosystems. π

Currently, the #quota for shrimp is very low, at only 3530 tons. However, catches so far have been good, which may indicate a better quota for next year.π
