On my way from Brussels to Oslo for the "Words Matter! - Tackling the Impact of Hate Speech" conference, organized by The Oslo Center. Excited to present our research at @interfaithtc on the adverse impact of cultural violence in our classrooms. It's been inspiring to engage with people across different geographies and recognize that we all share the common goal of peace, recognition, and respect. Let's work towards affording every student the opportunity to learn, love, and laugh. #WordsMatter #OsloCenter #CulturalViolence #Belonging #Respect #Peace

Day #3 of the #ThreeSummers book tour takes me to Maryland, where I'm visiting schools and engaging with middle graders. Their questions and reflections have been absolutely fascinating. As I interact with young readers, I'm struck by their enthusiasm for the book and their eagerness to know what happens to the characters. One student's comment, in particular, deeply touched me: "What you do isn't just storytelling, it saves lives." It's compliments like these that inspire me every day. I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with young people and share my passion for transformative storytelling.
Day #4 of the #ThreeSummers tour (in Maryland) has been an enriching experience. Engaging with students, teachers, and parents has been insightful, and I'm grateful for every encounter. Today, I had the pleasure of meeting an inspiring school librarian whose parents and grandmother were educators during some of the most turbulent times in our country's history.
Through the power of individual stories, we come together to create a collective. Stories of resilience to hate help us humanize one another. Let's continue sharing them.
Discover powerful stories for young readers with Wade Hudson, Amra Sabic-El-Rayess, A.J. Sass, Leah Stecher, Jamie Sumner, & Sherri Winston and discuss new middle grade titles tackling tough topics like bullying, grief, & fitting in. #txla24

Today was an absolute joy—I got to sign the very first copies of my latest book, #ThreeSummers, at Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington DC. #ThreeSummers is now at the top spot for kids' bestsellers at Barnes and Noble. Crafting stories and getting them into the hands of readers is a team effort, and as this week wraps up, I wish to thank everyone involved. Thank you to the amazing individuals who hosted me today in Washington DC, from staff at Politics and Prose Bookstore to a team from An Open Book Foundation and my publisher @fsgbooks.
In particular, I am grateful to educators and students who have opened their hearts to both receive my story and share their own stories with grace, warmth, and care. I end this week inspired by each and every individual I've met on my book tour.

"At the end of #ThreeSummers, I share the story of what happened to each of the main characters, including my cousins. Was our sisterhood sustained by love or broken by hate? You will have to read the story to find out. But what I will share is this — during the Bosnian Genocide, these three summers I spent with my sisters, particularly with Zana, sustained my hope that humanity still exists. And every day at 5:55pm, even if bombs were falling, I thought of my sisters, our love of laughter, life, and one another. I vowed that if I survived the horrors of war and genocide, I would ensure that we see each other again one day.
But unlike me, many children don’t get to survive and never get to live their dreams or experience their first summer crushes. Three Summers is therefore a warning, a lesson, and an act of love and solidarity with all children who feel disempowered, erased, and voiceless. By telling the stories that humanize the dehumanized I hope to inspire resilience to hate in all of us. Three Summers is also my call to action – to you — to help uplift the lessons of unity and together build a future where each and every child feels they have a chance to live, laugh, love, and learn." - from my latest essay in Nerdy Book Club

Students frequently ask me about the best part of writing #ThreeSummers. It's being with students and witnessing their inspiration to write their own stories. Every person has a story to tell, and if we actively listen to one another, we can reduce hate and conflict in our world. It's amazing what we can do with just 26 letters in English, just 27 letters in Spanish, just 28 letters in Arabic, just 48 letters in Hindi...etc.! Remember, your voice matters and your story matters.
As an author, I'm excited to announce that my book #ThreeSummers has become a BESTSELLER on Barnes & Noble and one of the top 20 best-selling books in the United States, only two days since its release! It's truly an honor to see readers connecting with the story of resilience, sisterhood, and friendship. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share this powerful tale with a wider audience by engaging with educators and students in schools across America. I thank you for your support!
