Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe warned activist Phakel’umthakathi not to make guesses about the killings in Ekurhuleni. The activist claimed that a woman driving a Toyota Rush may have helped lure victims, but Mathe said people should allow detectives to investigate and find the facts.

The two were speaking outside the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court, where three suspects — one man and two women appeared after the murder of a woman whose body was found in Dawn Park, Ekurhuleni. Police are still investigating exactly what happened and who may be responsible.

Mathe also said gender-based violence and violence against women is a much bigger problem in society. She said it should not simply be turned into a question of “where are the men?”, because investigators need to focus on the actual evidence in each case.

Mathe is saying, “Do not guess who is involved. Let the police investigate and follow the evidence.”
