MY PARTNER USED TO PHYSICALLY ABUSE ME. She had a miscarriage once and forced me to lick the blood.
It was in my final year in the university, you know those times where project work is surmounting and draining the living hell out of you, financially and mentally.
One of those days, I was seated at a cyber cafe along the road close to school, sipping sachet water thinking and waiting for my supervisor that was practically after my life. I nearly didn’t notice this woman who had crossed over from the other end of the road to get something in the shop where I sat.
She was very pretty, in hijab. She was beautiful and fair, she looked rich and smelled expensive but she was young too.
She wanted an A4 paper and a marker. The vendor ran out of A4s so I offered to help her get it somewhere close which I eventually did— she was too pretty to walk under that scorching sun, I told myself. She was thankful for me being so kind, we exchanged numbers afterwards. I didn’t think too much cos I already had a lot on my mind that day.
Around 8pm that evening, I saw a WhatsApp message and yes it was from her. That’s when we started being friends— the beginning of my woes. But I wouldn’t have known cos it was masked with unmatched goodness and favor.
We started talking more over the phone. We got to know ourselves better. She was a PG student. She’s from a wealthy home and she was doing so well for herself. She was into jewelry and expensive bags. She learnt about my struggles and for the first time in my entire life, I got an alert of N300k in the first two weeks of being friends.
My project budget was just a little above 200k. I didn’t lie to her. She told me to keep the rest for myself. She was very nice to me.
I was a virgin at this time.
