At #WebSummit Qatar, I shared my perspective on the ongoing AI vs. human jobs debate. The @TechCrunch article covering our panel captures part of that discussion.
In summary, here’s how I see it:
1. AI replaces tasks, not entire roles.
2. AI increases productivity — which creates more capacity, more output, and ultimately more work to be done by the same number of people.
The real transformation is not about job elimination. It’s about job redesign.
In customer service, we’re actively automating large parts of the workflow through AI agents — and seeing roles evolve as a result:
• Some human agents evolve into AI supervisors — guiding, monitoring, and approving sensitive actions.
• Others focus on relationship & trust building with customers and prospects, areas where AI will not be able to replace (at least not soon)
AI doesn’t remove humans from the loop. It changes the level at which they operate.
I believe companies that win will not be those asking, “How many people can AI replace?”
They will be the ones asking, “How much more value can each person create with AI?”
This is not a headcount reduction story. It’s a leverage story.
