Main page for the Limestone District School Board's Read-A-Lot Summer Literacy Program (Gr. 1-6). See the fun we are having while improving our literacy skills.
After 10 years, it’s time to pass the @ReadALotLDSB torch to @MrsMatthewsLDSB! I’ve been incredibly proud of the countless lives touched and the lifelong love of reading this program has inspired. Thank you to all our amazing staff and students. 📚 #EndOfAnEra
And just like that @ReadALotLDSB has come to an end. Prior 2 starting, I don’t think I truly understood what it meant to be a “gap filler” but now I see it clearer than ever. I am incredibly sad 2 say goodbye but I am extremely excited for the future 2 come. Thank you, Class 2!
Left hand to “bunch” 🖐️! Students in class 2 @Southview_LDSB practiced reading and spelling words with their target code through a fun game of phonics twister. Great work Ms. Ramsay and team! 🌟
This week, Class 5 worked hard on different spelling patterns, word sums with the suffix -ly, and completing sentence stems with the conjunctions because, but, and so! @ReadALotLDSB@MollyBrant_LDSB
Class4 @ReadALotLDSB@MollyBrant_LDSB has been practicing positive self talk alongside building our literacy skills - as we celebrate our final days we read an excerpt from a favourite 📕#JustBecause@McConaughey during shared fluency 🎉🗣️❤️
This girl has worked so hard over the course of our 3 week @ReadALotLDSB program. She is now spelling silent e words correctly and can sound out every word, she is well on her way to becoming a fluent reader! So proud of her 🎉
The @ReadALotLDSB@LimestoneDSB staff and students LOVE your work! The giggles are clear indicators of comprehension as the students practise fluency ❤️ Thank you!
A huge shoutout to @StephanieSartor + @MrHill_LDSB for visiting @LoughPS_LDSB today and diving into small group instruction with us! 👏👏Your support means the world! 📚✨
Today when learning new prefix re-, one of my Class 2 stars made a real life connection to the word, “reorder”. She shared, “I reorder sprinkle donuts because they are the best!” She was excited about her word sum and drawing, and so she shared them on the board. @ReadALotLDSB
Class 2 @LoughPS_LDSB has been working on expanding their sentences by adding “when”, “where”, and “why”details. They first brainstorm ideas on the whiteboard, then write their sentence on sky, grass, ground.
Look at that beautiful handwriting! ✍️@ReadALotLDSB
For our last @TheWritingRevol piece, the students and I agreed we should talk about why we loved Read-A-Lot @ReadALotLDSB! Here are some cute responses from Class 2 @BayridgePS_LDSB. 🥰
Class 1 had a blast working with @MrsMatthewsLDSB today building sentences using our Who, What & Where components. @ReadALotLDSB another successful collaborative learning experience for us all. Thank you to Literacy Leader @MrsMatthewsLDSB 🙏
Happy Thursday from Class #1 Build it, decode it, write it! Having a tangible activity often helps young minds engage in their learning and adding a secondary component of writing helps to retain letter formation and sounds! @ReadALotLDSB
Today for DPA we went on a letter hunt in the gym! Students found their letter, identified the sound & made a connection with words on our whiteboard before writing the word on Sky, Grass, Ground! A team effort to strengthen our literacy skills. @ReadALotLDSB
During fluency reading, this student paused to ask “Do they know about adding a “where” to their sentence to add more details?” 🤣❤️🙌🎉 @ReadALotLDSB@MollyBrant_LDSB thanks @SyllaSense for the amazing decodables 📚 - we have a budding editor for you over here ;)
A very successful and joyful morning in Class 1. We work hard to find motivating activities for the students generating an experience that is enriched and exciting! Building our phonemic awareness and decoding skills one roll at a time- “Boom!”. @ReadALotLDSB
Wow! Look at the incredible transformation in these writing samples using TWR principles! From “I see a cat and a bird.” to “One sunny afternoon at 1:06, a cat sees a little bird.” Spot the 'When' detail and adjectives in this student's expanded sentences. Amazing progress!
Look at these incredible improvements in writing skills in our before & after diagnostic data - showcasing the impact of targeted and explicit writing instruction to improve Ss writing skills in just a couple weeks #literacy@ReadALotLDSB@TheWritingRevol@MollyBrant_LDSB
