Breaking: Detroit officials are announcing right now that they are restoring water to thousands of residents and imposing a moratorium on water shutoffs as the coronavirus spreads in the U.S.
Detroit must also be included in any discussion of great pizza cities. And none does it better than Cloverleaf Bar & Restaurant in Eastpointe, our 2020 Restaurant of the Year Classic.
14400 East Jefferson aka Riverfront Hardware (1929) Jefferson-Chalmers, Detroit, MI
Jefferson-Chalmers has one of the city’s most impressive neighborhood commercial districts, and after many years of abandonment the area is starting to see some re-investment.
Let's play a game called "what's a better investment?"
On the left it shows $5 Billion invested in rapid bus, commuter rail and airport bus routes. On the right it shows $3 Billion to add lanes & repair bridges on a 7 mile stretch of highway.
Albert Kahn, Maccabees Building (1927) Midtown, Detroit, MI
This is my personal favorite Albert Kahn building. The nearby Fisher Building is often considered Kahn’s masterpiece, and while Fisher is an incredible building imo Maccabees is a more coherent composition overall.
The Detroit Saturday Night Building, built in 1911, is being razed to make way for 12 surface parking spaces. Over 40% of Downtown is dedicated to parking. A historic loss.
