On the first day of my medical house job in 1991, the registrar said to me: "You will quickly start to think you're irreplaceable. You're not. Remember that. If you get hit by a bus tomorrow, the consultant will look round and say 'Didn't we used to have a house officer? Get me another one!'"
The GMC should pause PLAB exams for at least 5 years.
Let’s call a spade a spade.
Fix whatever is going on with the system first before opening the floodgates to IMGs.
Because right now, paying for PLAB feels like throwing money into a well.
The fees are increased too? 😭
You pay. You pass. And then what?
No job. No return on investment. Just false excitement and false hope.
There are too many IMGs stuck in this exact position.
The problem isn’t passing the exams, it’s what comes after.
If you have the resources, seriously consider other pathways like USMLE.
At this point, one year grinding for USMLE Step 1 might do more for you than passing both PLAB 1 & 2.
IMGs, make a choice.
Everyday immigrant doctors will with patients and their relatives who think they’re incapable just because of the colour of their skin
Now it’s also their colleagues and the Secretary of State for Health sponsoring such narratives
Pathetic!
@AmirStocksMD@harvardmed@HarvardChanSPH it is not a "Fact" the way she state it. IMGs are not stealing spots. they are winning in an open competition and some people want nationality to be more important than ability which is wrong
IMG doctors successful but.... that's the current state...
-Matched but hoping to scale Visa applications
-Passed well for MSRA but hoping they make it somehow despite mid cycle implementation of the prioritisation act
What a state to be in, my heart to all doctors in this🤞🏾
Noticed people in the comments pinning hopes on CESR pathway. People with years of experience struggle with CESR. This pathway is extremely difficult if you’re in a specialty that requires procedures. You need a massive amount of departmental support.
UK grad with rank 2000 got it and IMG with 46 didn't. This is the state of IMGs in the UK rn and you're telling me we should work " harder " and it's not completely over? Good for local grads no hard feelings but we should save our money time and energy that's all.
After brutal written exams, MSRA, and treacherous oral interviews.
'Forged certificate, bad English, poor knowledge' IMG - rank 46
UKMG- rank 2600
Guess who was given right of refusal of the post.
And BMA had the audacity to release that video
