As people change where they work and how they choose to shop, Reading Town Centre is also changing.
The number of homes in the Town Centre is expected to double over the next 15 years, and as it grows, future success will depend on high-quality streets and public spaces for people to enjoy, enhanced routes, and a cultural and economic offer which is broader than traditional retail alone.
Our consultation asks: what do you want Reading Town Centre to look like by 2040?

More than 1,300 children took part in a space-themed reading challenge run by Reading Libraries over the summer.
Primary school aged children taking part in the challenge were tasked with reading six library books and visiting a library at least three times over the summer months, when children’s literacy skills traditionally dip.
Twenty-five young volunteers also contributed 321 hours of their time to regularly support children, parents and staff in the event which was held in libraries across the borough.
A total of 291 adults and teens also completed the Book Bingo challenge by reading at least three books and visiting the library three times.

The main part of our major roads resurfacing programme has now concluded.
Sixteen stretches of road across the borough have been resurfaced, including sections of Friar Street, Bath Road, Henley Road, A33 Relief Road, IDR and George Street in Caversham.
Thank you to all road users for your cooperation and patience throughout.
The works followed the Council’s biggest ever investment in road maintenance in Reading, which has taken place over the last six years.
We will continue to carry out routine highways maintenance and respond to reports of potholes and other road defects as always.
