Betelhem Dejene left her rural home in East Africa as a teenager, hoping for opportunity in the city, but instead faced abuse, exploitation, and violence. What began as a search for work became a fight for survival.

After homelessness and being forced to sell her body to feed her child, a nurse noticed Betelhem’s pain and connected her with the HOH Refuge Home. There, she received counseling, vocational training, and spiritual support that helped her heal and rebuild her life.

Today, Betelhem is independent, employed, and hopeful for her future and her children’s.

On #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay, her story reminds us that trafficking is often hidden—but freedom and restoration are possible when someone chooses to help.
