Family Physician / Retired from NWT & City of Kawartha Lakes FHT / Coroner / Proud Husband and Dad / Grateful to be Fully Vaccinated / Next adventure - Niagara
Doug Ford says that 50% of ER visits are a waste because people should just visit their family doctor. 12% of Ontario citizens don't have a family doctor, and Doug Ford re-introduced sick notes when he was elected, which creates up to 12.5 million unnecessary
@trclosson All of Ontarios medical schools except McMaster require Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status to apply. It’s gaslighting on an epic scale and few newspapers bothered to fact check.
1/There has been a flood of articles about Ontario's new #MAID data and reports released by the coroner this week, most of it based on "leaked" data in an AP article and people who don't know how to analyze observational data.
Here's a 🧵 with the highlights from the report.
A decade ago, the Waterloo Food Bank served 20,000 a year. It’s now 100,000–a 400% increase.
Amazing what 9 years of Trudeau’s taxes & inflation can do.
Common sense Conservatives will axe Trudeau's tax on food to bring home affordable groceries.
Dr Peter Petrosoniak and I worked together in the same Family Health Team. Peter for > 40 years, me for 34 years. I looked for four years. I couldn’t give my practice away, I couldn’t even pay someone to take it off my hands! Family Medicine is certainly not growing.
Ask my dad if fam med is growing. He's a family doc in Ontario for >40yrs trying to retire for 2yrs & literally no one will take his practice
If family medicine was "growing" and well supported, we wouldn't have 2.3M or 16% of the Ontario population without a fam MD!
Ha! I had a 34 year stable practice in a Family Health Team in a small town. Nice office with great colleagues and a hospital across the road. I couldn’t give my practice away for free even with the community providing incentives to potential recruits. I looked for four years.
Doug Ford is now talking about doctors in Ontario selling their practices. I know this does not happen with family practices. Is this a thing for specialists? As far as I know it doesn’t. Where is he getting his information?
One of the many ways that Trump harmed America was he made the country more rude and obnoxious. His constant vulgarity and pugnaciousness gave people permission to be awful. And sadly, not just MAGAs. Studies have shown we are all meaner and more hurtful to each other. Trump opened the door to that and the pandemic exacerbated it. It's made life harder for many of us. Try to keep yourselves from behaving like that.
Ignore Lilley, read Moscrop.
The Ford government gets deservedly taken out to the woodshed in this piece by @David_Moscrop.

I’m sure I missed some 😶
So, Lanark County is now facing a Coronial crisis not of their making.
The Office of the Chief Coroner has demanded that every Coroner commit to being on call for absolutely no compensation. None. Nil. Zilch.
Dr. Jean Marmoreo, a nurse and family doctor, writer, athlete, advocate, adventurer, and one of the country's first practitioners of #MAiD, appointed to the #OrderOfCanada. https://t.co/lUGm4mGpVF via @Bob_Ramsay
@SylviaJonesMPP . @LaurieScottPC. It’s total nonsense to say Minden ER closure wasn’t about money but rather staffing. Everyone knows staffing flows from money. Pay people properly & you would have solved the staffing issue. The government has to stop starving public healthcare.
@docstemp I was 34 years in Lindsay, Ontario (20 as GP Anaesthesia). Moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake 18 months ago. I now work as one of 3 coroners for the Niagara Region in my semi-retirement.
Too many women aged 40-49 are refused a mammo requisition in provinces where you need one. It's time for @cantaskforce to provide clear messaging to Fam Docs and NPs: the choice to screen is a woman's. The message has been lost! https://t.co/mu4tHkDuEh
Amazing considering the MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock is a longtime Conservative and former Minister of Labour in the previous Ford government and a retired ICU nurse!
Minden Hospital ER and all in-patient services will close June 1. The province has hundreds of millions for unnecessary private surgical centres and yet is choking the life out of rural, remote and small town hospitals. This decision must be reversed.
Providing healthcare coverage to those uninsured was a great decision.
400,000 services were provided by 7000 MDs to patients in need, many of whom qualify for OHIP but barriers prevent them from getting a card.
The program should be continued and improved upon, not cancelled.
