The Markel Building in Henrico was designed in 1962 by Haig Jamgochian—inspired by a foil-wrapped potato. Wrapped in hand-hammered aluminum, it's been called one of the world’s ugliest buildings. Love it or not, it’s RVA’s own UFO

Helen’s: A Richmond Classic
Opened in 1912 as Fletcher’s Pharmacy, it became Helen’s Inn in the '30s—a swing-era juke joint with velvet curtains & serious vibes. Restored in 1994, it’s still a go-to for food, drinks & nostalgia.

📜 Richmond’s Byrd Street Station 📜
Once a bustling hub for travelers heading N, S, E & W, this “unpretentious though commodious” depot served Richmond from 1887 until Union Station took over in 1919.

Monday got me like….
“So, Monday. We meet again. We will never be friends, but maybe we can move past our mutual enmity toward a more positive partnership.” -Julio Alexi Genao

Patience, children, just a minute--
See the spreading circles die;
The stream and all in it
Will clear by-and-by.
by Robert Louis Stevenson

“All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watching the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view, but it’s not sane”
- Blind Melon (Shannon Hoon)

Powering up for weekend adventures
“Saturday is the mightiest day of the week. It’s unshakably, overwhelmingly superior. Not only is it a day off of school, the following day is also a day off, like some kind of Super Saiyan bargain sale”
-Wataru Watari

‘We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world forever, it seems.’
— Arthur O’Shaughnessy”
“And if we wrapped up against the cold, we wouldn’t feel other things, like the bright tingle of the stars, or the music of the aurora, or best of all the silky feeling of moonlight on our skin. It’s worth being cold for that”
- Philip Pullman

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
— Robert Frost
