Justice Musana strikes off unverified AI Hallucinated/generated cases from the Court record, warns Advocates against such conduct, Denies Costs because misconduct cannot be rewarded✍️AI-hallucinated case law in written submissions breaches an Advocate’s duty of candour and assaults the integrity of the judicial process ✍️AI has entered the workplace, law firms, and the Court, but it must always be used responsibly, ✍️There are no regulations currently governing the use of AI in our Courts.
✍️ AI has entered the workplace, law firms, and the Court, but it must always be used responsibly.
✍️There is no regulations currently governing the use of AI in our Courts. It is therefore imperative that a human remains in the loop and that, in the practice of law, an Advocate’s fidelity to the law and duty to the Court demand probity.
✍️including unverified, AI-hallucinated case law in written submissions breaches an Advocate’s duty of candour and assaults the integrity of the judicial process.
✍️ A legal practitioner who presents fictional judicial precedents and fabricated excerpts to the bench abdicates their core obligation of professional diligence. It is an act of deceit and risks corrupting the administration of justice.
✍️ AI is just about entering our legal system, a stern warning will suffice, Hallucinated authorities have severe consequences in the administration of justice.
✍️Where Advocates have cited hallucinated authorities, other jurisdictions have dealt firmly with such conduct.
✍️ Hallucinated authorities have severe consequences in the administration of justice. For these reasons, we do not think that an award of costs is appropriate as misconduct should not be rewarded.

By the way, the Queen Mother has previously challenged some Tooro customs. In the case of Best Kemigisha v Mable Komuntale, the Queen Mother successfully challenged the Tooro Custom that prohibited a queen from administering the estate of her husband.
The judge held that Kingdoms must align themselves with the current law if they were to survive. That there is nothing in the law that compels Court to follow blind and backward looking custom.
So if she challenges the custom preventing queen mother from burying her son, it won’t be the first time. Customs must be modified in accordance with existing laws.
