The first line of defence is now food banks not the welfare state.
But the scale of poverty facing us is so huge that we cannot rely on charities. Those who have little have given generously to those who have nothing but raising money becomes harder as the cost of living bites.
We have run a foodbank since 2009, it was supposed to be a short time project. Today, our foodbank and helping vulnerable families is our main priority.
Coming to a foodbank is never an easy thing to do, now people need meals that require limited/zero energy usage, foodbanks can't afford their own running costs, people who previously could donate to food banks are now struggling themselves.
