SBI PO notification is out for 1600+ vacancies in India.
If you’re a fresh graduate should you apply ?
Why you should:
1. It’s a high paying job, there are only a handful of jobs that provide a six digit net salary to fresh graduates without any experience.
2. Numerous non cash perks like free health insurance with unlimited cover to you and your family about 1.5 lakh to buy furniture, 1 lakh for shipping during transfer, 40 litres of fuel every month etc.
Why you shouldn’t:
1. This job is the definition why money is not everything, you will earn a good salary but won’t get any chance to spend them.
2. You have to work from 10 to 8, a 10 hour shift every day. There’re no off on Saturday Sundays as you have to attend review meetings, Arrange Lok Adalat, Recovery drives and Clear backlog works.
3. You have to develop a thick skin for tantrums, foul languages and severe mental pressure both from administration for not fulfilling unrealistic targets and customers for having lunch in your 10hr shift.
4. You will be transferred in every two years until your retirement or till the age of 50, unlike IAS officers or School teachers your transfer is not bounded in a state or block. You can be transferred from Odisha to Karnataka then to Mizoram to Gujarat as per the protocol. By Gujarat I mean not just Ahmadabad, like Only Bhubaneswar is not Odisha, Malkangiri’s Chitrakonda branch is also Odisha posting.
5. There is a provision of mandatory 5yr difficult branch posting( difficult means hard to do business, no proper communication or naxalite area).
6. It’s not an easy to crack job, Around 9 lakh applications are filled up, of which 7 lakh appears prelim, 16000 from 7 lakh are short listed for mains, from which 4800 are selected for interviews and documents verification out of which 1600 will get the offer letter.
It requires 2 yrs of serious preparation for candidates beginning from scratch.
Before you start preparing think wisely.
If you are wearing a Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, Peter England, or Allen Solly shirt, there is a good chance it is made in Odisha.
This is Aditya Birla’s apparel manufacturing unit in Bhubaneswar, dedicated to shirt production.
Capacity - 4 million shirts annually.
Today, I visited a friend's house.
He is a Group B Gazetted Officer in the Uttar Pradesh Government.
A shiny Fortuner was parked outside his house,
But I always saw him going to office in Bolero.
Smiling, I asked him
"Buddy, when you own a ₹40 lakh Fortuner, why do you still travel in a ₹9 lakh Bolero ?"
He smiled and replied
"Because the Fortuner is mine,
but the Bolero is my identity."
I was a little surprised.
Then he explained
"All my official work is done in the Bolero provided by the government.
Wherever I go, people immediately understand that an officer has arrived just by looking at the vehicle.
The Fortuner gives comfort, but the Bolero carries a different sense of identity and responsibility."
Listening to him made me realize something
Not everything expensive creates status, and not everything that looks simple is ordinary.
Many times, true prestige comes not from the price tag,
but from the position and responsibility a person holds.
And maybe that's why people often give as much way to a government Bolero on the road
which sometimes even vehicles worth crores do not get.
What is the real prestige In your opinion,
In an expensive car,
or in the identity earned through hard work and position ?
