@JaySonTafari @espn But the cheating the cap did not make a significant impact on who the Clippers signed and the competitiveness of the team/games. It was just to help Balmer save money. Balmer should get fined or whatever, but suspending Kawhi or voiding his contract would be literal insanity.

The players who made prop bets on the game or even the guys who used PEDs had a way bigger impact on league integrity because they actually affected the outcomes of the games. All this did was lower the Clippers luxury tax bill by a few million dollars.

He took a little less to help the Clippers avoid luxury tax payments. Sure it’s against the rules, but let’s stop pretending that this is some huge deal that affected the competitive balance of the league. Clips should get a punishment proportionate to the crime and the Raptors should be able to trade for Kawhi.

@abhasto The cap circumvention happened once Kawhi was already on the clippers and was due for an extension. The only real impact was the Clippers were able to pay less in luxury tax.

Yes, I think it would be different if the Clippers used the money they saved to sign 2 max free agents they could otherwise not afford and won a chip. What happened in reality though was the Clippers resigned their own guy to save a couple million on their luxury tax bill. Did they break the rules, yes. But the punishment should be proportionate the severity of the crime, which in terms of impact is not very severe.

Yeah the Clippers cheated the financial rules of the salary cap a little bit to resign one of their own players. They didn’t tamper with another team’s player or do anything to cheat the game like the Astros did in baseball. Why should this investigation last for a year and hold the Raptors hostage and hold dozens of free agents waiting to sign with teams in limbo?

@HarrisonSanford Honestly starting to sympathize with Kawhi at this point. All he did was accept a few million dollars from the team sponsors to get comped for taking a slightly below max extension. He is not some master criminal. This investigation needs to end ASAP.
