There are a few technologists running at full sprint but for the majority all are fighting against systems that are not designed to foster this level of innovation anymore. Our adversaries entire society conspires for progress, with government, regulators, and innovators working together in lock-step. Meanwhile I'm sitting here filling out regulatory paperwork when I should be engineering.
Not all is lost, but we will not remain #1 if we do not wake from our slumber.

Worth considering if we should base today's reality on the science fiction musings from the past.
Testing with humanoid robots is a very interesting new challenge. Historically robots have been confined to keep out zones with rigid walls and laser barriers, lock-out/tag-out, etc. This is the easy way to ensure people don't get hurt by very capable machines. But the more we integrate humanoid robotics into collaborative roles with humans the more we need to remove those barriers by nature of the work.

If I were the CEO of Lockheed Martin, Xerox, HP, Intel, GE, Delta, AA, United, IBM, etc...the list goes on of American corporations that have lost their aura; to hire specialized archival historians, dig into their archives and release them as fine art publications. Reclaim your aura, celebrate your legacy you cowards. It'd cost like $50k and a couple of people's salary to make that happen. Blow people's minds with the stuff in your archives—graphics, brochures, design documents, circuit diagrams, logo and type specimens, brand guidelines, important memos, catalogs, photographs, etc.
If it were up to me, our institutions would stop blatantly lying, admit that we HAVE been lying, and own up to the nearly insurmountable nature of our national problems.
Then I’d urge that we bet on Gen Z and help them pull off a miracle of American grit.

Architectural Titanium
Last week I was banging on about the virtues of titanium and how it’s such a shame that we still haven’t freed this abundant metal from the expensive Kroll process.
Quick reminder: Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of all elemental metals, it does not corrode, it’s super-non-toxic for humans (think surgical implants), and it’s one of the most abundant elements on Earth.
There’s also a lot of funky alloys like Nitinol (another post from last week), that would allow architects to design dynamic living structures that morph to life at sunrise.
In 2025 we should be good at titanium by now, and we should be building glorious biomorphic architecture with it.
This is one of the saddest gaps in humanity’s 21C tech tree. We’re still living in urban buildings that age and rot, none of this era’s buildings will remain 200 years from now.
