Joint Statement on Israel’s Basketball Victory Over France
“We, the undersigned, wish to make clear our position on the events of last night’s EuroBasket game between Israel and France.
Israel, of course, has the right to play basketball. Every nation deserves the chance to compete on the international stage, to dribble, to pass, and even—within reason—to shoot three-pointers.
But in this case, Israel has gone too far. An 82–69 victory cannot be justified. It was disproportionate, excessive, and leaves France deeply wounded. We call for immediate restraint in future games, and a renewed commitment to a two-team solution on the court—where both sides feel they have scored enough points to claim dignity.
We urge international referees to ensure that Israel’s basketball actions remain proportionate, measured, and in line with the rules-based sporting order. Until then, we cannot stay silent.”

This evening is the beginning of Yom Ha Shoah,
Holocaust Memorial Day.
On this day, we remember all those who were murdered in the Holocaust. In the uprising, in the ghettos, in the death marches and in the camps at the hands of the Nazis.
On October 7, 2023, even though we said ‘Never Again’, we witnessed the horror of the biggest mass slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust, with the murder of Nova festival goers, kibbutzniks, the elderly, teens, toddlers and babies. The world stood by as hundreds of Israelis and people from 25 different nations including the elderly, the infirm, toddlers and babies, were kidnapped to Gazan tunnels, tortured, beaten, raped, starved and many murdered by Hamas terrorists and their ‘innocent’ civilian helpers.
Once again, we are seeing fast-rising anti-semitism and terrifying unrest within our own governments and on the streets, as marches are allowed to take over our cities supporting terror organisations, calling for the destruction of Israel and the eradication of Jews.
On this meaningful day, I stand proud in my Judaism and my history.
I honour my great-grandmother Emma Blond, and my grandfather’s three brothers Reinhart, Georg and Harry as well as all his aunts, uncles and cousins, all sent to concentration camps never to return.
May their memories be a blessing, now and always and may our 59 remaining hostages.. most already murdered in cold blood, be released from their own holocaust and returned home.. the dead for a dignified burial and the living to be reunited with their loved ones and for rehabilitation.
