“Regular” people normally can’t perform at this high of a level after such a significant injury, but some elite athletes are able to because they spend the majority of their time optimizing their muscle strength, stability and muscle activation.

Eventually Vonn will need surgery, but since the Olympics are only every 4 years and she’s been preparing for this many years she likely decided to give it a go. This will likely be her last as she’s currently 41.
