@GregRenoff Before I ever got a proper tuner, I used to tune my guitar to that open E chord in "Sucker" The holy grail Marshall Super Lead Plexi was still ripping on that one. If only Ed would have backed off some of the harmonizer, that entire album would sound meaner.

That video literally changed my life. My brother and I would put the VHS recording in before school while getting ready just to re-listen and re-watch various parts - like "5150" for that killer long delay break/solo that EVH did, or just to listen to his epic solo that started with what became "316" I think it's on the Mt Rushmore of greatest concert videos ever.

100% Correct. Just pure hard rock/metal. Grunge might be the stupidest media invented "genre" ever. Those of us lived it in 1990 will back me on this. We just thought compared to the wimpy garbage and completely watered down L.A. based hard rock scene, Alice was the most refreshingly different and cool heavy rock band that broke in a long time . Their influences are proudly 90% metal and they associated far more with Queensryche and Metal Church Seattle bands than with the Nirvana punk-alternative crowd. In fact, I think Facelift was the catalyst for the great heavy rock reset and started the 90s sound.

@Loudwire Just like VH's debut album set the direction for where hard rock went into the 80s, Facelift did the same for the 90s. It remains one of the best debut albums ever to me.

I think they commercially peaked with Hysteria, but peaked for me at Pyromania. Loved their harder edge first three albums. While I appreciate Hysteria now, when it was released, I was very disappointed with the even more than Pyromania highly produced/pop direction. It was great for the high school girls I dated, but left metalhead me wishing for another High and Dry! 🤘😀

@AiCLayneStaley It wasn't a "grunge" album. There was no such thing. Facelift is a heavy metal album. And it is an absolute banger of a debut release. I love every song on it.

Poison - simply because after they broke, the scene just got more diluted by the industry pumping out the next wimpy copy of copies based on look, not musical substance and or talent. That is exactly why when it first came out, Facelift by AiC it immediately resonated with me and I said "this is the kind of metal I was missing!" 🤘
