Words vs. Reality: Tinubu's Democracy Day Address
Today, President Tinubu spoke of heroes, sacrifice, and a democracy that "doesn't break."
Meanwhile, millions of Nigerians are breaking under hunger, insecurity, and economic hardship, talk is cheap. Lives are not.
Communities are still under threat from insecurity. Families are struggling to put food on the table. Yet the message from the top is one of celebration and tribute to the past, with little acknowledgment of the present crisis.
Democracy isn't just about elections and speeches it's about delivery.
If the government wants Nigerians to "renew their covenant" with democracy, maybe it should start by addressing the basics: security, food, and opportunity. Not just on paper in reality.
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria. We're still waiting for the democracy that works for us.
