Why Overwatch 2 ranked isnt a real ranked system: In OW2 your hidden SR determines your rank (SR still fully exists; it's just hidden from the player). The top500 system works by sorting players by their SR, meaning we can see how the hidden SR works. From top500 we know that when you finish your 5 placement games you can see huge jumps in SR either down or up because your rank in top500 wildly changes. Meaning even if you win your last placement, you can still lose SR and go down in the top500 list. This affects every single rank in the game. Essentially this is just in place to increase player retention, because players are more inclined to play more if they physically see their rank go up or down. As a result the ranked system really means nothing and your rank is going to be skewed up or down wildly just so that you will play the game more. Nothing about this is “competitive” or reflects your true skill it’s just another system to keep you looking at the shop menu.
