🇦🇷 A subscriber sent in this really interesting video from 2003…

In it, an Argentine news outlet reports on claims that then–Army Chief General Roberto Bendini warned about alleged Israeli intentions to “seize Patagonia” through covert operations disguised as tourism and NGO work.

The story caused an uproar.

Bendini was said to have made the remarks during a class at the War College and during tours of military units.

The general later denied the statements to Defense Minister José Pampuro. But the controversy didn’t go away.

The Defense Ministry announced an investigation. Jewish organizations expressed concern. And questions lingered about what was really said, and why it struck such a nerve.

General Bendini was a trusted ally of then-President Néstor Kirchner and had just taken over after a major purge of top military brass.

Even 20 years later, it makes you wonder.

Six months ago, Argentines on Reddit discussed an influx of Israelis into the region, establishing hostels and other sites.

Many of them have made (very low) offers to buy land which were declined.... months later a fire erupted. After an area is cleared by wildfire it stops being protected native forest and can be approved for development by the Milei government.

Spooky stuff.
