@Eastandbays You don't care if the Navy loses a $100 million boat because they hired someone who was unqualified to manage it?
At this point you don't want reason, you just want to disagree, which is fine, but a waste of both of our time.
@GeoffWalkerNZ@labourcartel@Slanecartoons You can read on through the next few pages which establishes the majority of PHOs are privately owned small businesses.
Prior to 2001 they weren't called PHOs, but most GP practices were still private businesses.

Page 149:
PHOs were established by the Primary Health Care Strategy 2001. They are
non-government organisations and are not established by any particular
legislation.
@Eastandbays The qualification is required under the Navy operational rules and is separate to command authorization.
She needed both.
The inquiry found NZDF carried blame for allowing an unqualified person to captain the ship, naturally they would try to argue against that finding.
@nathanabnana@justinb24448577 As for the housing market, that is stupidly simple - lack of supply drives up prices and makes home ownership inaccessible.
Excessive red tape and an anti competitive govt owned developer keep supply restricted.
Solve those problems and the rest will take care of itself.
@nathanabnana@justinb24448577 The previous current govt proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that targeting landlords hurts renters.
CGT in principle is not unreasonable, but if we have to have it, it must be universal.
Complexity in the tax system is a key indicator of inefficiency and unfairness...
@nathanabnana@PaulCoddington Comparing now and then is complex, and I don't think you can simply say it's better or worse.
There are serious challenges we as a nation need to overcome, but short term fixes only kick the can down the road, long term thinking is the only way to create a sustainable future.
@nathanabnana Sound economic policy, provision of good health and education, and supporting those at the bottom to rise up are the things we should be focused on.
As best as I can tell, the current coalition policies are much more aligned with that than any party on the left.
@nathanabnana What do you want me to reconsider? I believe the state should provide a safety net for those with genuine need.
I also believe that we can not tax, borrow, and spend our way out of the current economic situation nor will hacking scapegoats down will lift the vulnerable up...
@Eastandbays That is not the policy, McAnulty only said those would be the prime candidates for the program.
Also, if someone can pay market rent, they shouldn't be in a state house.
@nathanabnana@PaulCoddington Everyone should have an opportunity to live a successful life and to reap the rewards of hard work.
In NZ the vast majority of people have that opportunity.
Many fail to take that opportunity, for a myriad of reasons, most of which are entirely within their control.
@Eastandbays Correct. The question is - why did they?
We are not talking about a little runabout here, it's a $100 million dollar military vessel.
This is not a small oversight, it points to a fundamental and systematic problem around resourcing.
DEI is the very obvious explanation.
@PaulCoddington@nathanabnana I was raised in a single parent, beneficiary home, and started life with 0.
No subsidised housing, no fees free education, no race-based leg up.
Just decades of long hours, hard work, paying taxes, and contributing to my community.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
@Eastandbays I didn't say "She doesn't know how to steer the ship".
The Official court of inquiry found she lacked mandatory qualifications to be the captain of the ship.
I said, she wasn't qualified which reflects the official findings.
@peterbayley Did you actually read the link? It was the source of the rediculous quote. The graph (which suggests going back 30 years might be a good thing) did not come from 1 news.
"We risk going backwards to the 90's!!! "
Yes, that's the point - the 30 year woke-happy-feel-good approach to education has been an unmitigated disaster.

@peterbayley I do not have a derogatory view of NZers, the vast majority of kiwis work very hard to get to where they are.
It is the left who select a small, non-representative group of bad people and then tar everyone else with that brush.
Taking other people down will never lift you up.
The left in a nutshell:
Use a tiny minority of very bad people as a representative sample for a target scapegoat group.
Blame all of today's problems on that group and promise to 'fix' the problems by punishing the scapegoats.
Landlords, billionaires, white men etc
@peterbayley@nathanabnana That would be nice, but only a tiny percentage of people inherit enough to get everything they need, and inheritance alone does not lead to a fulfilling life.
@foo_4_thought@nzstargazer All of these lead to a disconnection from our community which drives tribalism and removes the incentives for mutual cooperation.
@foo_4_thought@nzstargazer Feminism and the feminisation of society has had some negative impacts (and some positive), but probably not a huge influence here.
IMO, the biggest drivers (in no particular order):
Globalization
Multi-Culturalism
Mass Immigration
Social Media
