@Austen 2 of the 3 things you listed there are subjective decisions - which is the problem I have.
Ultimately - VAR got the call right, but VAR should’ve asked the ref to review at the monitor regarding Balogun’s positioning during the APP because it’s a subjective decision 🤷♂️
@Camden_DM@RefereeC21621 The initial reason for the flag doesn't matter once VAR starts checking. Protocol mandates they review the whole APP for any issues. Freeman being onside fixes one error, but Balogun’s positioning was a subjective interference call that VAR shouldn't have decided on their own.
@SarazamT@patrick_yeager1@RefereeC21621 Correct - but then as the video says, you are making your body unnaturally bigger. By having his hands in such a position, he's taking the risk of being hit by the ball and being penalised...
@adamwnufc@Trevor_Porath2 The real question that needs to be asked is:
"Interfering with Play" is a subjective judgement.
Why was VAR allowed to overturn the on-field decision without sending the ref to the monitor?
@Trevor_Porath2 It's definitely a goal...however - determining whether the goalkeeper was impacted or not, is a subjective judgement.
I don't get why VAR was able to overturn the on-field decision without sending the referee to the monitor...
@patrick_yeager1@RefereeC21621 By that logic, any push is insignificant as long as the player still manages to get a touch on the ball.
That's a pretty dangerous standard.
@BillRenaud3@Michael26237@TPJhawk@smnhndmch 100% - I'm sure the AR thought Balogun was the scorer and/or Freeman was offside.
Would be interesting to hear the comms between the on-field ref, the AR and VAR - to see what they actually checked/didn't check.
@patrick_yeager1@RefereeC21621 "The push was insignificant to the play"...huh? Without the push, Irankunda gets a clean head to the ball - hence why Berhalter pushed him in the first place...
@BillRenaud3@Michael26237@TPJhawk@smnhndmch Genuine question then: isn't determining whether the goalkeeper was impacted, and whether the offside player made an attempt to play the ball, a subjective judgement?
If so, why was VAR able to overturn the on-field decision without sending the referee to the monitor?
@MiovskiProp@SPFLWatch Mmm, don’t like it. I get what they’re trying to do there, but that’s not mistaken identity - that’s complete reversal of a ref’s decision…
@WestCoastStever I’d assume it’s mostly the big pylons and the fact he’s flying on that platform. Yes he could’ve just performed without the pylons or the platform, but it obviously wouldn’t be the same.
Considering it’s a world premiere, I think he wanted everything to go perfect…
@KarneyJame32443@weraveyou I’d argue Bunt’s a producer before a DJ. His sets aren’t a mixing masterclass, but that’s the point - he’s creating a chaotic experience in a memorable way.
