When a captain is interviewed before every game, the interviewer asks about changes in their team.
Could be a v v v v long interview for my buddy, Babar!
Maybe the toss should start the night before?? π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
The players dropped from the squad are still our national cricketers who have served Pakistan. Phrases like "sent on the first flight back" are disrespectful.
Accountability should start with those who broke the system, not with players specially those who were on the bench or have played 2-3 test matches. Plus accountability starts once a tour is done not in the middle of it.
Players should not be going through such mental stress and a social media after every bad game or the fear of failure will settle in the minds of our players.
Recently, we have started losing those big moments. We get ourselves into positions where the game is there to be won, but instead of putting our foot down and finishing it, we allow the opposition back in.
That comes down to physical fitness, yes, but also mental fitness β staying switched on under pressure, believing you belong at this level and having the courage to take responsibility when the match is on the line.
The talent is there. What this team needs now is clarity, confidence, fitness and a stronger mentality.
I want them to succeed. Every former player wants that. Because players and management will come and go, but at the end of the day, this is Pakistanβs team β and when you wear that star on your chest, you have to fight until the last ball. (2/2)
This is a decent Pakistan side. There is talent in this group. A number of these players have performed consistently in domestic cricket and on the county circuit, so their ability is not in question.
For me, the bigger issue is what happens when they put on the Pakistan shirt. International cricket is as much about the mind as it is about skill. At this level, players need confidence, clarity and, most importantly, the backing of the management.
Right now, Iβm not sure every player has that clarity. Look at the top four. With Babar Azam expected to return, do they know who will play the next game and what their individual roles are? A player cannot perform with freedom if he is constantly wondering whether one failure will cost him his place. These are conversations the management must have openly and honestly with the players.
Fitness is another area where there can be no compromise. When you represent Pakistan, fitness cannot be something you work on only before a series or tournament. It has to be part of the culture and the standard you live by every day.
This may not be the strongest Pakistan team we have ever produced, but letβs also be fair β this is not the strongest England side we have faced either. What disappoints me is not simply losing. Pakistan teams have lost before. It is losing without making the opposition feel that they have been in a fight.
That was always the character of Pakistan cricket. When our backs were against the wall, that was often when we were at our most dangerous. We were unpredictable, aggressive and capable of changing a match in one spell, one partnership or one moment of brilliance. (1/2)
This image is a reflection of your commitment towards cricket and how you give it your all on the field. Good luck for what's ahead @benstokes38 π€πΌ
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Shahid Akhtar. May Allah bless his soul and grant Sabr-e-Jameel to Shoaib bhai and his family.
To strengthen our red ball cricket, we need to offer lucrative red ball contracts to specialist players.
It's the best incentive to keep them committed to the longer format as this way they will commit to play minimum of 5 First Class matches per season and players will not make the mistake of forcing themselves into changing their natural game or chase franchise cricket.
At the International level, half-cooked skills don't survive. We need fully committed players who are equipped for the challenge.
I am not associated with this league in any capacity.
I request the organisers to refrain from making such announcements and urge all stakeholders to immediately remove any reference to my name or association with this project.
Thank you.
Respected CM @MaryamNSharif, while timely regulation of businesses is a welcome step, I reckon gyms and fitness centers deserve special consideration. Many office-goers work out after duty hours only. Health is as important as food, and extending gym timings to 22:00 as well would support a fitter Pakistan.
