Viola Desmond was arrested and convicted for violating racial segregation rules at a cinema in Nova Scotia in 1946. She was pardoned posthumously in 2010, and this week Canada honored her by putting her on the $10 bill. Her sister, Wanda Robson, was given one of the first bills.
