This was not true in all cases. For example Lincolnia VA was an area of freed slaves with acreage that remained so for more than fifty years when people began to sell their land for profit to developers. The last was sold sometime in the 1980s. It had been part of several plantations until the Civil War. It had its own schools until 1962 federal integration laws required Black students be bused to White schools and vice versa.
Plus, it can be argued that any federal government assistance given to people is, in effect, reparations since it is tax money from others given to some because of their economic situation. If they believe those conditions exist because of systemic racism then they have been receiving reparations all along. The same can be said for the poor whites of Appalachia displaced by the TVA and Oak Ridge projects during the 1930's and 40's. Many of the descendants of those subsistence farmers remain on government assistance. In effect, once again, reparations for their economic situations which they believe were created by the taking of their families' properties.
Iran has had to have an external threat since the 1979 revolution, first Iraq then Israel and the U.S. By directing the attention outside they've gotten away with doing all sorts of diabolical things on the inside and now have the populace cowed. What the U.S. needs to understand is the Mullahs have no where to go so they aren't going to go away. Nor will they allow a secular government to be formed. The only way there is going to be peace in the region is, unfortunately, to completely destroy the regime. Would that we had not started this thing thinking there could be negotiated peace. These people maintain their power through threat and force and since they have no where to go they have nothing to lose by continuing to play for time. Their hope is a new Congress in 2027 will force the administration out of the region and allow them to get back to their business as usual schedule. Remember Shiism allows it adherents to lie to protect the faith and thus there can be no good faith deal made with the current Iranian regime. Those of us who fought this conflict clandestinely could have told President Trump that Israel was starting a war that could only end in conquest because you can't negotiate with religious zealots.
@TheStudyofWar The other alternative is the military is giving him accurate figures and he's lying to protect himself. If there are giving him false figures then the war may well be lost.
@SteveGuest Then why did he make it so when he refused to "prosecute" Clinton? A decision, by the way, he wasn't authorized to make. Such a decision must be made by an Assistant Attorney General not the Director of the FBI. He exceeded his authority and was not called on it.
@nytimes Can you say, "So full of himself." He's always been a little prissy and self-serving in his presentations. It's not like he's ever been a "Doer." He just comments on what others do. There's a big difference between the fighters on the field and the commentator watching them.
@libsoftiktok@elonmusk She actually doesnโt have a choice since the Supreme Court ruled that every person charged, and who goes to court must be represented by a lawyer. And since the state pays for the lawyers for indigent people, she has to allocate the money.
@FoxNews This is Mitch McConnell's legacy, a gift to the Democratic Socialist party because he doesn't like Trump. These people might as well be Democrats and change their sides of the aisle.
