Yet what you call “Western civilization” today owes much of its intellectual rebirth to the Islamic Golden Age. Yes, the founding father of secular thought in Western Europe, the cradle of Western civilisation, is a 12th-century Muslim philosopher, jurist, and polymath known as Ibn Rushd, or Averroës in Latin. What you are doing here is mistaking your misconception of Islam for the ideal.

Islam was for centuries the world’s steward of knowledge, of innovation, and of critical thought. This was at a time when much of Europe was locked in theological rigidity and intellectual decline, when Galileo Galilei was standing trial for heresy for merely stating that the Earth revolves around the sun.

Perhaps you should consult your books on how the works of Greek philosophers like Aristotle were reintroduced to the Western world. It was through the comprehensive commentaries of Muslim scholars like Ibn Rushd that European thought was shaped for centuries. These texts, translated into Latin and Hebrew by Jewish and Christian scholars in medieval Spain and Sicily, found their way into universities across Europe. They became the foundation of what we now recognise as the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.

So, to address your mischief, or ignorance, it was through this Islamic transmission of classical knowledge, not in spite of it, that Europe rediscovered its Greco-Roman roots and began constructing the very institutions that define Western civilization today. These include secular universities, scientific inquiry, and philosophical humanism. It was Islamic Córdoba, not Paris or London, that lit the lamp of learning in the darkest corners of Europe.

The West is a victim of its own self-inflicted history, not of some fiction of civilisational incompatibility. If you had truly desired cultural homogeneity, then perhaps you should not have invaded and colonised their lands, looting their material and human resources. These same Muslims even fought in wars to save you when Hitler came blazing, dying for a cause that was not theirs, just to preserve a civilisation that nearly got bombed out of influence, out of existence.
