Insecurity breeds fear. When people lose trust in those responsible for their safety, some resort to mob justice in the name of self-preservation.
This is barbaric and must be investigated.

Amnesty International strongly condemns the horrific mob killing of Malama Ummulkhairi — a mother of five and teacher at Mararaban Jos community along Kaduna—Zaria highway on 21 June 2026. She was on her way to attend a Qur'anic recitation session, when false alarm was raised about her; alleging that she was 'planning to abduct children.'
The Nigeria Police @PoliceNG@TunjiDisu1 must also investigate the strong allegation that officers handed her to the mob that lynched her when a crowd reportedly descended on the police station. Particulaly some eye witnesses alleged that it was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) that stripped her hijab and dragged her into the hands of the mob.
Eye witnesses told Amnesty International that as a large crowd invaded the police station, officers on duty brought the victim out and handed her to the crowd that killed her and set her body ablaze.
This incident is yet another example of the fact that shocking failure of the Nigerian authorities to protect lives is leading to a growing escalation of mob violence, as people increasingly take law into their hands and carry out so-called ‘jungle justice.’
It is appalling that mob violence is gradually becoming the norm nationwide. It is largely meted out based on suspicion or rumour or hearsay.
Mob violence is a danger to the society.
The menace of mob violence is perhaps one of the biggest threats to the right to life in Nigeria. The fact that these killings have been happening for a long time, with few cases investigated and prosecuted, highlights the authorities’ utter failure to uphold and fulfil their obligation to protect people from harm and violence.
Happy Day of the African Child. ✨
This year's theme calls us to act on one of the most basic rights: water, sanitation and hygiene #ForEveryChild.
As our Rep, @nbshafique reminds us: "These are not privileges. They are fundamental child rights."

Those policemen were serving honorably and lost their lives… it may not be now, but the perpetrators must be brought to book, and justice must be served.

It took The Point newspaper and Gambians at large 15 whole years or so to know who killed Deyda Hydara.
Yes! He was killed by the former government, as per the revelations at the commission…
So again, we will keep asking, “Who killed the cops?” because Gambians deserve to know the truth, and most importantly, the families of the late Pateh Jallow and S. Mendy (both police officers) deserve the truth, and ultimately justice…
We can’t allow the 🇬🇲 to be hijacked by these individuals.
This rearresting after a court order, premised on the states failure to prove their case against O.B & A.B, is a blatant disregard to RULE OF LAW they always claim to represent.
RELEASE THEM NOW!
We fought dictatorship together & won. Now the work is how we consolidate the gains of what we fought for and those gains that must not be lost in our quest for a better Gambia.
The 🇬🇲 Government must ensure that Rule of Law is followed and respected, that includes Court orders.
Its usage reflects our civic culture and discipline. We must not write on it, tear it, staple it, or misuse it in any form. It is part of our national identity and must be protected by all.
@BankGambia should consider this step too.
A currency is a national commodity that deserves our collective attention in ensuring its durability and quality.
Many people complain about the condition of certain denominations, from texture to quality and how they are handled across society….
In public spaces, especially vans and taxis, some notes are rejected when issued as change. This has caused unnecessary problems. But who do we blame for making our money look bad? We are all complicit in this cycle. It’s time to educate ourselves to respect our national currency
I am pleased to share my official candidacy portfolio for the #ACERWC 2026–2031.
My vision focuses on three core pillars for impact:
🔹 Technical Guidance & Emerging Threats
🔹 Accountability & Accessibility
🔹 Cross-Continental Synergy
25 years ago, We ratified the ‘African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child’ overseen by the @acerwc.
I call upon my 🇬🇲 Government under the leadership of @BarrowPresident to fulfill all its obligations under the Charter to ensure its full realization.
#ChildrenRights
I joined the world to celebrate this day. For 77 years on, the fight continues. Too many children, youth, families, and communities still lack their Basic Rights.
Corruption, Inequality, and Injustice must end.
Defend Dignity. Protect Freedoms. Demand Justice
#HumanRightsDay2025
I welcomed the announcement by @MobseTheGambia to restrict access to schools by musicians whose work promotes indecency and immorality.
Lest we forget “Children” are the future, and they must be “protected” by all means necessary, and possible.
