Stan “The Man” Stasiak, managed by The Grand Wizard, won the WWWF Heavyweight Championship from Pedro Morales on December 1, 1973, in Philadelphia. The finish was a controversial full nelson that left both men on the mat; Stasiak lifted his shoulder for the pin.

He held the title for only nine days as a transitional champion so Bruno Sammartino could regain it without beating Morales directly. Stasiak dropped the belt to Sammartino on December 10, 1973, at Madison Square Garden. During the brief reign he had one defense (a no-contest with Chief Jay Strongbow) and later called those nine days "the happiest of his life".

WWE does show loyalty. Nattie been there for 20 years it feels like. At the same time. They still have to run a business. Nobody said they didn’t want to keep Kofi and Creed around but at the price they were paying them versus the usage they were getting, it didn’t make sense.
