@StuartBudd1@Bankersbonus1 You just blew up your argument up with that one- there is not 1 mention of support for Schengen in that survey.
But it does say this- 'Respondents attribute their dissatisfaction to migration 31%.
Ireland is just not up for joining Schengen- it's time for you to accept that.
@StuartBudd1@Bankersbonus1 My point remains that there is no polling data on Ireland's Schengen status, most likely because there is no burning desire to join it.
The only solution is reunification and that's as far away as Indyref2.
So we work with things as they are, not as we would wish- agreed?
@StuartBudd1@Bankersbonus1 So the answer to my question was 'there is no data to indicate that Ireland wants to join Schengen'.
That may change in future decades...who knows...
But based on the current legal reality, a returning UK would retain the Schengen opt-out.
@StuartBudd1@Bankersbonus1 So my question to you was:
Do you accept that there is zero evidence to support any claim that Ireland wishes to join Schengen- i.e. polling data?
@StuartBudd1@Bankersbonus1 Good.
Do you accept that there is zero evidence to support any claim that Ireland wishes to join Schengen- i.e. polling data?
@StuartBudd1@Bankersbonus1 OK, I'll bite.
It is impossible for the UK to rejoin the EU & Schengen, but Ireland stays out of Schengen.
So either the UK can't rejoin the EU at all, or it gets the opt-out.
There is also no evidence that Ireland wants to join Schengen- i.e. polling data.
@paulmk17@JohnHann04 John is another clueless Brexitard.
There is no obligation to adopt the Euro- ERMII is voluntary & no current non-Euro EU member can be forced to adopt.
And then there's the fact that our Euro opt-out is still written into the EU treaties to this day.
Don't be like John...
@Frances_Coppola@KatyKray73 Fun fact- in Austria the rail operator Westbahn has trains with separate loos for M/F...you can guess which ones have the baby-changing facilities...
@seasideionian@Mij_Europe The EU already has better access to the UK market due to us not checking stuff coming in from the EU (to avoid supermarkets having empty shelves and people rioting...).
@disasterhistory@UKLabour@Conservatives There is no option of rejoining the Single Market & Customs Union first and saving the tricky bit for later.
You only have to read TFEU from Art.26 to understand why- it's an easy read.
