IN HONOUR OF A LEGEND: THE PASSING OF DADDY LUMBA
The Movement for Change has received with deep sorrow and solemn reverence the news of the passing of one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, affectionately known across generations as Daddy Lumba.
Ghana mourns not just the loss of a celebrated highlife musician, but the departure of a cultural colossus whose voice echoed through the hearts of a nation in moments of joy, pain, reflection, and triumph. For over three decades, Daddy Lumba gave expression to our deepest emotions. He turned the rhythms of our lives into melodies that will remain eternal.
From the moment he emerged as a young prodigy from Nsuta, Daddy Lumba reshaped the soul of Ghanaian highlife with daring originality, poetic genius, and a rare vocal versatility. With over 30 albums to his name, his music was more than entertainment it was the story of a people. It was love serenaded, sorrow dignified, dreams celebrated.
He inspired generations of artists. He broke barriers, redefined artistry, and gave Ghanaians a sense of ownership over a unique cultural identity. Whether it was the infectious rhythm of Aben Wɔ Ha, the introspection of Theresa, or the gospel-inspired tones of Mesom Jesus, Lumba spoke to all of us in every tongue, in every mood, at every stage of life.
Yet beyond the stage and studio, Daddy Lumba’s legacy lies in his courage to be himself. In an era that often demanded conformity, he dared to be different. He was bold. He was authentic. And in doing so, he gave the rest of us permission to be fully, truly Ghanaian.
As a Movement committed to the rebirth of a proud, confident, and united Ghana, we honour Daddy Lumba not only as a musical icon, but as a cultural pathfinder a man who taught us through song what it means to feel, to hope, and to belong.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire artistic community. As the music fades and silence sets in, we hold fast to the truth that legends do not die they echo.
May his soul rest in perfect harmony.
And may his voice continue to rise in the heartbeat of a grateful nation.
