They said “𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒔” when Lisandro Martínez was sent off for the slightest contact with Calvert-Lewin’s hair.
If that’s the case, then why weren’t the following incidents punished in the same way?
1. Brentford’s Dango Ouattara pulling Calvin Bassey’s hair against Fulham
2. Everton’s Ndiaye brushing Dominik Szoboszlai’s hair, similar to Martínez
3. Arsenal’s Gabriel pulling Erling Haaland’s hair
Both Gabriel and Ouattara appeared to use more force and intent.
What’s even more surprising — the same referee officiated the Martínez and Ouattara incidents, while the same VAR was involved in both the Martínez and Gabriel decisions.
Fun fact!
Paul Tierney was the referee when Antoine Semenyo’s hair was pulled no red card.
Paul Tierney was also the referee when Calvin Bassey’s hair was pulled no red card.
But when Paul Tierney officiated and Lisandro Martínez accidentally pulled Calvert hair red card!
Make it make sense 😡
Same referee, same incident, different outcome. Lisandro Martinez is sent off, Dango Ouattara is not.
Meanwhile Manchester United have one fit centre back at Stamford Bridge, where Martinez sure would have been handy tonight.
Nice one @FA_PGMOL, consistently incompetent.
🎙️ Patrice Evra on VAR:
“Is VAR seeing something different from what we all see on replays?
From Lisandro’s reaction, it’s obvious it wasn’t deliberate. He’s a professional. He’s played at the highest level. He’s not stupid.
It’s a normal duel. Calvert-Lewin uses his arm, like he did with Yoro. Lisandro reacts, makes contact, briefly grabs his hair, and lets go immediately.
How does VAR not see that his vision is blocked with Calvert-Lewin’s arm across his face?
Fans see it clearly. VAR doesn’t. So what is it?
From the same replay, Calvert-Lewin even tries to grab Lisandro’s hair as well. He just can’t.
And that’s a red card on Lisandro?”
• Clear penalty on Matheus Cunha by William Saliba — NO foul!
• Saliba grabbing Altay Bayındır’s hand — NO foul + score.
• Clear foul on Bryan Mbeumo denying a goal-scoring chance — NO red card.
• Semenyo grabbing Dalot by the throat — NO red card.
• Multiple handballs by Bournemouth in the box — NO penalty.
• Lisandro Martínez goal wrongly disallowed for a “foul” that never existed — robbed us of 3 points.
• Amad Diallo pulled and pushed in the box — NO penalty… same situation with Harry Maguire on the other end — penalty given.
• Leny Yoro elbowed in the face — play on!
• And then Lisandro Martínez gets sent off for actually trying to win the ball while Calvert-Lewin hands are all over his face.
Same league, same rules… completely different decisions when it comes to Manchester United.
This are just a few decisions that VAR got completely wrong against us this season and i have probably missed some, but you get the point — it’s Manchester United against everyone always.
Make it make sense… 🤦♂️
Frame 1 = red card for Lisandro Martinez
Frame 2 = no foul on Leny Yoro
Calvert-Lewin committed 7 fouls tonight, 5 of them were elbows yet he walked away without a single yellow card.
Leeds United second goal came from a foul on Bruno Fernandes but the referee refused to give a free kick.
Our previous game was another scandal. The referee and VAR refused to give Manchester United a clear penalty and it immediately led to Bournemouth scoring.
Against Burnley, Lisandro Martinez scored a clean goal, yet the referee disallowed it.
Kyle Walker clearly committed violent conduct but the referee and VAR ignored it.
At what point do these referees face consequences for their actions?
They are trying so hard to stop United from making the Champions League next season.
🚨 Rio Ferdinand on VAR:
“Since when did this game get so biased?
For the first goal, Calvert-Lewin doesn’t even try to head it. He uses his hand on Yoro, Yoro misheads it, they score. No review.
Then with Martinez, both go for the ball. Play continues, no one reacts… but someone is checking it for a red.
At this point, it’s United against them.
Even if United score… you feel like they’ll find a way to rule it out.”
