A few days ago we learned that migrants are taking nearly 40% of housing in wealthy areas of the country. Yesterday Neil Prendeville reveals foreigners are "very much over-represented" on the housing list in Cork.

Charity of the Month! Ireland’s prostitution charity Ruhama publishes its annual report, and separately annual audited accounts. It’s eye-opening.

Before we begin, and in answer to what Garda Commissioner Drew Harris did next, he’s now on the Ruhama board.

Last year, Ruhama’s income increased 25% to €2.5m with nearly all coming from the taxpayer. Around 60% goes on staff, though it’s coy on its project expenditure, with its CEO Barbara Condon presumably on €80-90,000 excluding pension costs. It has increased its staff by 33% in the year to 43.

In terms of its core function of helping prostitutes, particularly those trafficked and coerced, transition to other employment, it’s hard to know how genuine its "clients" are, and whether dubious “prostitutes”, nearly all non-Irish are using Ruhama to access employment and housing.

It makes much of its “welfare checks” conducted with our friend, Superintendent Derek Maguire’s Garda Organised Prostitition Investigation Unit. As noted by others, like Senator Michael McDowell, Gardai with Ruhama recently conducted 266 welfare checks during Operation Global Chain and didn’t identify a single trafficking victim which is just not credible. Welfare checks have become a substitute for law enforcement (which should be like shooting fish in a barrel) and Ruhama welfare checks are dubious.

We no longer have any faith in Ruhama which in 2026, appears to be a self-sustaining (and expanding) NGO and its annual report is a word salad of Li(ngo) Bi(ngo). We don’t actually know what the final infographic below means, what is a “non-cisgender” which apparently excludes what they call “transwomen”?

This video is currently all over social media. Many are expressing sorrow for this woman and sadness at her outrage. My take on it is different. The look you see on her face is not outrage…it’s realisation. It is the look of a white, liberal lefty woman suddenly realising that her entire worldview is/was totally wrong. Thousands of years of historical and cultural heritage destroyed by ISIS in the Mosul Museum and Syria :

In 2014, Mosul (encompasses what was once Nineveh, largest city in 7th Century BC and capital of Assyria) fell under the control of ISIS (also called Daesh). During its three-year reign, the Islamist militants destroyed artifacts and buildings, mostly shrines that were sacred to other Muslim sects — saying they were forms of idolatry. But they also targeted sites for looting and to get attention, filming the destruction and sharing it in propaganda videos online.

But ISIS's actions inadvertently created opportunities. Sifting through the wreckage after ISIS's occupation, archaeologists have gained new insights into this great ancient city.

"The Assyrians built the first huge empire in the history of humankind," German professor Stefan Maul said in the documentary. "They excelled at science and engineering, revolutionized warfare, and created one of the world's first great libraries."

"This is the civilization that produced modern knowledge, philosophy, culture and science," Zaid Ghazi Saadallah, director of the Mosul Cultural Museum, said in Arabic.

The Assyrians, and their ancient capital, are shrouded in mystery. How did the empire become so powerful? What engineering marvels transformed Nineveh from a provincial town?

ISIS insurgents systematically attacked the Mosul Cultural Museum, proudly showcasing their destruction in online propaganda videos. They destroyed artifacts, which were thousands of years old, with sledgehammers, drills and explosives. 

"The hardest day for me was when Daesh showed their video," Saadallah said. "The destruction of civilization."

Today, under his watchful eye, the museum has become an emblem of Mosul fighting back. International teams of restorers are painstakingly repairing and reconstructing the artifacts ISIS sought to destroy — and ensuring the insurgents don't have the last word.

At Nebi Yunus, a site outside Nineveh, Maul ventures into a labyrinth of tunnels created by ISIS. They built 650 metres of pathways by hand so they could loot an Assyrian palace, which was under a mosque that was believed to house the tomb of the prophet Jonah. 

"In 2014, when Daesh conquered Mosul, in their fundamental view of Islamic theology, it is forbidden to pray in front of a grave of a human being," Maul said. "So they simply blew up the mosque."

He believes ISIS found important objects in the palace and sold them on the black market to finance their war. Still, archaeologists have made other discoveries. They've learned more about King Sennacherib, who built the palace, and unearthed clues that are changing our understanding of Assyrian arts and culture.

Beyond Mosul, Kurdish archaeologist Bekas Hasan reveals some of the discoveries that illustrate the ingenuity of the Assyrians. They constructed an immense water supply (its network of canals measured about 350km) and built the oldest known aqueduct — a feat of engineering. Made of about two million stone blocks, it predates the earliest Roman example by roughly 400 years and provided Nineveh with a constant supply of water. This allowed the Assyrians to indulge in what might seem like an unlikely passion: gardening.

The discovery of this system has led to a revolutionary theory. British scholar Stephanie Dalley believes Nineveh is true location of Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Sifting through ancient written records and intricate carved reliefs, she found evidence that Sennacherib used water to nurture a lush, tiered garden in Nineveh. King's writings, recorded on a clay prism, match ancient descriptions of Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Archaeologists have never found remains of gardens, but perhaps they've been looking in wrong place.

Unfortunately, between 2014-2017, ISIS destroyed and looted Assyrian artifacts, but it inadvertently led to discoveries that are shining new light on the empire.

BREAKING: Israeli spyware is confirmed on our phones. This should be headline news but none of our mainstream media is covering it, of course. So we will.

An Israeli ad company called Discover-Tech used ordinary online ads to plant spyware on people’s devices, and nobody had to click anything. The ad just had to load on a website or inside an app for you to be infected.

Citizen Lab and the ad security firm Confiant published the findings yesterday. Researchers went through roughly 4 billion ad-bidding records and found Discover-Tech ads running on more than 120,000 websites and 70,000 apps between March and June of this year. Confiant says the company was serving at least 10 million ads a day.

The platform was called Controlium. According to Citizen Lab, it let spyware companies use ad auctions to profile and unmask users, then send an infected ad to the one person they wanted to hack. The ads were also pulling cookies and login tokens from the sites they ran on. Israeli corporate records list Dekel Boni as the company’s founding director and sole shareholder.

The main spyware customer was Candiru, the Israeli firm the U.S. government blacklisted in 2021, which now goes by Integrity Labs. Five years after that blacklisting, it was still reaching devices through ad inventory on Google, Comcast-owned Beeswax and Russia’s Yandex. Google had Discover-Tech on its approved vendor list from 2020 until this week.

At least 45 Al Jazeera devices were targeted in 2024 and 2025. Candiru’s 2021 shareholder filings reportedly listed a minority investor described as a proxy for Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, and Qatar also funds Al Jazeera. If that holds up, Qatari state money was sitting inside the company whose spyware was later aimed at Qatar’s own news network.

The heaviest targeting was in the Palestinian territories, where Discover-Tech served almost 2% of all digital ads and about 10% on April 7. Traffic also reached the Armenian prime minister’s office, courts, universities and defense organizations.

Google and the other ad platforms cut Discover-Tech off after the report came out. What nobody has answered yet is who paid for the ad buys, and how a company working with a U.S.-blacklisted spyware vendor passed vendor review for six years.

I am going to look into this today to see if we can figure out who was buying the ads. Interesting timing considering my article yesterday....

Here's what to do to protect yourself:
(1) Use an ad blocker. Citizen Lab calls ad-blocking a cybersecurity best practice and says there is no consistently safe way to be exposed to targeted ads. On iPhone, add a Safari content blocker. On Android, use Brave or Firefox with uBlock Origin. Ad blockers only work in your browser, not inside apps, so it also helps to delete free ad-supported apps you don’t need.
Kill your advertising ID.

(2) iPhone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and turn off “Allow Apps to Request to Track.” Then Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising, and turn Personalized Ads off.

(2) Android 12 or later: Settings > Privacy > Ads > Delete Advertising ID. Then in Settings > Google > All Services > Privacy & security > Ads > Ads privacy, turn off Ad topics and Ad measurement.

(3) Windows 11: Settings > Privacy & Security > General, and turn off personalized ads using your advertising ID.

(4) Update your phone and restart it often. Many zero-click exploits don’t survive a reboot, so a daily restart forces attackers to reinfect you.
