Okay so I made a Mastodon account ~just in case~
So if we wake up one day and twitter is offline, you can still get herpfacts from Mastodon.
Just in case...

@motownhitsem@the_mr_sinister@MarkHamill@Acosta I was gonna say the same thing but took a look at my dude's profile and I get the idea he ain't the kinda person to listen to rational arguments...
I really wanted to stick to the schedule this week, but it's been kind of a stressful day and I guess I just kinda spaced, and now it's pretty late where I am, and I think I'm gonna hafta just hold off for now. Sorry folks :(
Happy 149th Birthday C.H. Lightoller!
Sorry you died seventy-one years ago...
But hey! You were alive for longer than you've been dead so far, so there's that! Got another seven years before we cross that milestone...
... oh god I'm such a nerd
#HappyHistoricalBirthday
Charles Herbert Lightoller survived the sinking by climbing atop an upside-down collapsible lifeboat. He died 40 years later on 8 Dec 1952 (age 78), a victim of the Great London Smog. If he were somehow supernaturally still alive, he would be 148 today #HappyHistoricalBirthday
Karaurus, a 20cm long stem-group salamander from Kazakhstan, lived during the Middle and Late Jurassic, making it one of the oldest known salamanders. #frogfacts#herpfacts
African dwarf frogs (genus Hymenochirus) look very similar to African clawed frogs (Xenopus laevis), but can be told apart by their pointed snout and four webbed feet, as X. laevis has a curved, flat snout and webbing on the hind feet only. #frogfacts#herpfacts
Moloch horridus is known by many common names, including spiny lizard, thorny lizard, thorny dragon, thorny devil, mountain devil, and moloch. Judging from this picture, I don't think I need to explain where most of those names comes from. #zarsfacts#herpfacts
The blue spotted tree monitor (Varanus macraei) can reach up to just over a meter, making them the longest of the tree monitors (subgenus Hapturosaurus) #zardfacts#herpfacts
The color pattern of the eastern hognose snake (Heterodon platirhinos) varies greatly, mostly by region. These four snakes from Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and Massachusetts are all eastern hogs. #snekfacts#herpfacts
The blue coral snake (Calliophis bivirgatus) is unique among elapids in that its venom does not contain a neurotoxin. Instead, it contains a calliotoxin that blocks sodium channels to cause near instant paralysis. #snekfacts#herpfacts
Okay so, I think I'm officially back from hiatus. I intend to post doubles this week to make up for the week long break, like I did last time I went on hiatus. I actually have two snekfacts ready to go, they should be up shortly.
Zaraapelta was a Late Cretaceous Mongolian ankylosaur related to Tarchia. Its name comes from the Greek ΟΞΞ»ΟΞ· (peltΓ¨), meaning "shield," which is common in ankylosaurid names, and zaraa, Mongolian for "hedgehog," because spines. #dinofacts#herpfacts
@xenogil180 There's some thoughts on that. The proposed clade "Toxicofera" includes anguimorphs, iguanians, and snakes, on the basis that these suborders all feature some form of venom gland, either functional or vestigial. The theory is not without criticism, but it's certainly interesting.
@xenogil180 Oh absolutely. Honestly the safest way to pick up a snapping turtle is to not pick up a snapping turtle. But if you have to, definitely make sure not to put your hands in biting range.
Pictured are the proper ways to pick up large snapping turtles, both alligator (left) & common (right). The common snapper must be handled this way because its long flexible neck lets it bite as far back as its hind legs. Never pick up any turtle by the tail #terpfacts#herpfacts
There is only one place in the world where you can find both gators and crocs, and are any of us surprised it's in Florida? The southern tip of Florida is the northern limit of the American crocodile, while the American alligator is found throughout Florida. #crocfacts#herpfacts
