After 22 years of working with a major corporation, Mike took a leave to revise and relaunch Reconnect’s personal and professional development curriculum at their new site.

Mike began work as the Deputy Director of Reconnect NYC in summer of 2021, just 5 months after first being introduced to and inspired by the mission.
He sees it as the most imaginative and comprehensive expression of community offered under one roof.
In 2014, Father O’Shea alongside Efrain Hernandez founded Reconnect NYC which was launched with the goal of teaching entrepreneurship firsthand through the upstart of real businesses in the community. (3/3)

Father Jim O’Shea – priest, social worker, and community-organizer.
In 2002, he founded Churches United Corp. – a coalition of 19 Catholic Churches that successfully advocated for the creation of thousands of units of affordable housing in North Brooklyn. (1/3)
In 2010, he established the Vernon Avenue Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with the mission of engaging young people of the neighborhood through entrepreneurship, education and leadership. (2/3)
He is proud that the Reconnec NYC can be a part of his legacy. Efrain formally served as a member of the Reconnect Board of Directors, where he helped guide the organization into the future. (3/3)
Efrain Hernandez is the Co- Founder of Reconnect NYC. He grew up in the neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn where he experienced hardship which included a lot of violence and death. (1/3) 🧵
He spent time incarcerated and when he came home he was proud to be a part of creating something in the neighborhood that was never there for the young men. Efrain opened the Café in 2013 and have worked with dozens of young men in the community as their manager and mentor. (2/3)
