Legal work happens across many environments. The professional standard should travel with it.
Starting October 15, HighQ is available as an MCP plugin within Microsoft 365 Copilot, as a launch partner for Microsoft Copilot for Legal. That means matter context, documents, and team information from HighQ are now accessible directly in Copilot Chat and Cowork, Copilot in Teams, and Word, without switching platforms or rebuilding context.
The best integrations do not add a new tool. They make the ones legal professionals already rely on work better together.
This is part of how Thomson Reuters is building across the legal AI ecosystem, ensuring that trusted, fiduciary-grade capabilities are present wherever professional work happens.
Sharper research, smarter drafting: September brought CoCounsel Legal even closer to the places where legal teams already keep their work.
What’s new from September:
→ CoCounsel Legal agent now available in Word, with enhanced access to Westlaw, KeyCite, and Practical Law content
→ Global Research Menu expands global content coverage, with International Legal Research now at 44 jurisdictions
→ Prompt Library for saving and reusing your best prompts
→ Up to 10,000 files in a single workspace

It’s part of the next generation of CoCounsel Legal, grounded in Westlaw and Practical Law and coming to customers in more than 90 countries and territories throughout 2026.

Westlaw Deep Research is coming to Archie AI, Smokeball’s matter assistant.
Thomson Reuters and Smokeball partnered earlier this year to bring Smokeball’s practice management tools together with CoCounsel Legal, and this is the next step. Westlaw Deep Research, Thomson Reuters’ agentic legal research tool, will be integrated within Archie AI later this month.
Ask Archie a question and get a structured report built from multi-step research across Westlaw. Every step is visible, every citation links back to Westlaw, and the work stays on the matter for future reference.
Research that’s sourced and reasoned, grounded in Fiduciary-Grade AI™, with more to come in 2027.

Is efficiency the finish line for legal AI, or just the starting point?
We sat down with Liz Zimick, President, Corporates, at #ACCAM26 to discuss how legal teams can think beyond efficiency.

The CoCo has an opinion about guessing: don't.
Guessing is for avocados and gas station sushi. Not legal research. Not taxes or audits.

Our team has been in Boston for the Association of Corporate Counsel Annual Meeting 2026, where the exhibit hall opened on Sunday and our first Learning Lab drew a full audience. The session showed how in-house teams are using Legal Tracker insights in CoCounsel Legal to move from gut feel to data when benchmarking outside counsel costs.
That night, customers joined us at Trillium Brewing for craft beer, live comedy, and a vinyl DJ.
That energy carried into Monday, in sessions and in conversations at our booth. Our second Learning Lab drew a full audience, showing that, in legal work, not all AI is created equal. That's the thinking behind Fiduciary-Grade AI™ and the new CoCounsel Legal.
There's still one day left to find us at booth 511.

Why does precision matter in professional AI?

One quick research question. One sophisticated memo with fully cited cases, plus angles Michael Malone hadn't thought to ask about.
That moment stuck with Michael, AI lead for Polsinelli's healthcare litigation practice. CoCounsel Legal answered the question and pointed him to what to ask next.
The bigger lesson from our recent conversation with him: most firms treat AI adoption as a tooling decision, and the ones pulling ahead treat it as a strategy decision. He's seen what changes when a firm treats AI as a differentiator instead of an add-on: faster work and better client work.
“It allows me to do what I went to law school to do,” he says, “think through and strategize and advocate for my clients.”
That's how Michael measures ROI: not hours logged, but time reclaimed for strategy.
