Serving #Oregon and Southwest #Washington state. Wildfire, earthquake, tsunami, home fire or alien attack, the #RedCross will help you be prepared for anything.
Happy Pride Month!! Here's one way you can celebrate and save a life at the same time: donate blood!
The Red Cross has supported changing the deferral policy concerning sexually active gay men, supported by decades of data collection and assessments to improve transfusion safety. The Red Cross has also been an ongoing advocate for eliminating donor questions based on sexual orientation and was a leading contributor to the FDA-funded study that led to changes in donor eligibility.

Who was Dr. Charles Drew? He was an African American surgeon⚕️and scientist 🔬 who helped shape the blood services industry. He was also the first medical director for the Red Cross in 1941. He was born on this day in 1904 🎂.
Celebrate the man they call the "father of the blood bank" by signing up to donate blood this month at https://t.co/P73xV1NsRf.
In honor of CPR & AED Awareness week, let's take a moment to remember how important knowing these lifesaving skills is:
Just over 70% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the home, so the life you may save could be a family member or a friend. Survival chances decrease by 10% for every minute that immediate CPR and use of an AED is delayed.

Be like Chuck! Chuck Albin is a regular donor and the ladies who work blood services know him by name. Ruth, Joy, and Ashley work hard to ensure every donor feels special and they are comfortable while donating blood.
Making a blood donation appointment is incredibly important right now. A sharp drop in scheduled donations is especially troubling now, during a season when blood collection can be difficult due to end of the school-year activities, travel and school breaks, as well as severe weather and heat that can disrupt blood drives entirely.

This is your reminder that severe wildfires scar our beautiful nature and takes forests decades to recover, if at all.
Wildfire season is around the corner and we ask that you help us prevent wildfires. When you're out camping, remember these key tips:
1. Only have a fire in a fire pit ringed by stones
2. Never leave your fire unattended
3. Don't have a campfire on a windy day
4. Ensure your fire is fully extinguished before leaving
This is what Red Cross commitment looks like. Rebecca O'Rourke (pictured left) is a dedicated employee who just marked 15 years at the Red Cross.
Rebecca started with the Red Cross in Southern California 15 years ago as a Business Development Representative. She later moved to Bend, Oregon 9 years ago and took on the role of Account Manager, overseeing the rural communities in Central and Eastern Oregon.
She is incredibly skilled at donor recruitment, relationship building and excels at Power Red conversions. She is such a great team mate and is a joy to work with. We are lucky to have Rebecca on our team! Join us in celebrating Rebecca 🎉🎊
On this Memorial Day, we remember and honor our fallen soldiers. Their memory lives on in their families and friends. Thank you to the many servicemembers who continue to volunteer their time with the American Red Cross in the Cascades Region and across the country.
When we're not responding, we're training and training with partners is EVEN better! This Tuesday, in Klamath Falls, we held a Shelter Fundamental Training with Oregon Department of Human Services Office of Resiliency Management and Kingsley Field Air National Guard. We practiced setting up a shelter, getting cots ready and making sure we know how to provide the best service for those affected by disasters.
Every week, we respond to multiple home fires across our region. This week alone, we responded to 9 home fires and provided assistance to 20 adults, 7 children and 17 household animals. We provide this assistance to our local communities every day, all year long. To learn more about this program, visit https://t.co/vdXyJ3MLmG.
It's our birthday!! That's right - 145 years of continued and constant humanitarian work for our country. We're only asking for one birthday present this year: for you to get involved with the Red Cross! It's easy, you can join us as a volunteer, make a financial or blood donation.

What do the Titanic, San Francisco earthquake, 9-11, WWII, and the Maui wildfires have in common? The Red Cross. In the 145 years of our mission, we've responded to these amazing moments in history and more. The Red Cross turns 145 on Thursday and with the support of our volunteers and generous donors, we will be here for the next 145. Happy Birthday, American Red Cross!

Thank you Medford!
We hit the ground running by installing free smoke alarms with the help of our partners, the Medford Fire Department, Rogue Community College, the YMCA and the LDS church.
Home fires claim 7 lives every single day but smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by a home fire in half.
Does your home have working smoke alarms? Now's the time to check. https://t.co/y9x2YedE2s

Every week, we respond to multiple home fires across our region. This week, we responded to 10 calls and provided aid to 19 adults, 12 kids and 15 pets.
Many don't know that as part of our preparedness program, we install free smoke alarms and provide home fire education to our local communities. Does that sound like something that you could benefit from? Click here to read more about this program: https://t.co/lxClD6mmvo
Jens Haetty has always wanted to work with nonprofit organizations. Now that he’s retiring, he’s choosing to spend his time teaching children how to safely respond to home fires with the “Prepare With Pedro” program at the American Red Cross.
When asked why he chose the “Prepare With Pedro” program to volunteer with, Jens had this to say: “The Red Cross was on my list… I also wanted to get to know the community. For example, by doing this, I get around all over the Portland area… I looked at what the Red Cross was offering, and I saw this Pedro thing… I’m usually good with kids, so I thought, wow, that’s something that I’d like… So what I’m doing now, I’m not just doing the presentations; I’m organizing all the Pedro presentations in the area, reaching out to schools and things like that.”
Jens is a big believer in the idea that children are smarter than people give them credit for. In his time working with the program, he’s never encountered an unresponsive group of kids. He likes the idea that children will take the information he gives them and share it with their parents or other adults in their home. Not only does the program teach kids how to respond in a fire, but it also gives them the opportunity to teach their parents something about home safety.
