I woke up one morning and discovered my generator was missing.

My neighbour was the first person to come outside.

He helped me check everywhere and even suggested we report the matter to the police.

I was so touched that I bought him a drink to appreciate his concern.

Two days later, a mechanic called me and said someone had brought my generator to his workshop to change its colour.

I rushed there.

Guess who I found? My helpful neighbour! 😭

When he saw me, he said, “Madam, na misunderstanding. I wanted to keep it safe for you.”

I asked him why he changed the colour.

He said he wanted to prevent thieves from recognizing it.

I nearly fainted.

But the real shock came when the mechanic said:

“Madam, this is the third generator he has brought here this month!”

Now my neighbour is begging me not to disgrace him because we live in the same compound.

Apparently, some of my American mutuals on here are always surprised whenever I tell them I’m Nigerian. I recently asked a few of them why, and their response was that I’m too open-minded and expressive to be Nigerian.

Each time someone asks where I’m from and I say Nigeria, they’re like, “No, no, no! You’re just too open-minded to be a Nigerian.”

And I’m sitting here wondering what kind of image they have of Nigerians in their heads. Do they see us as primitive, narrow-minded people who can’t think beyond certain boundaries?

The fact that they keep getting surprised by my openness and the way I express myself makes me wonder how they see us through their own lens.

What exactly do they think Nigerians are like? 🤦🏽‍♀️

My neighbour connected me to his WiFi, and I’ve been using it for free for over three months. Recently, the subscription expired, and I noticed he was struggling financially.

Yesterday, I offered to pay for the WiFi since I’d also been benefiting from it. This man said no! He said he doesn’t like collecting money from a woman and would renew it himself when he had the money.

Omo, I just stood there looking at him. 😭 I’m not trying to prove anything; I just want to help because you’ve helped me too. What exactly are you forming?

Are there still men who would rather struggle than accept genuine help from a woman simply because she’s a woman?
