Mayor Cherelle Parker loves to party, she was on stage this past weekend screaming something to the effect of, “there’s no party like a philly block party because a philly block party don’t stop”. The Office of Property assessment just revalued every property in Philadelphia, once again raising property taxes that will heavily affect this poor city. The federal government comes on the heels of this releasing a report detailing how Biden’s illegal immigration triggered 30% rise in home prices and 20% in rents.

Philadelphia is a sanctuary city, it’s reported that it’s 76,000 illegal aliens here but we know that number is much higher. When the housing supply is low but the demand is high we know the prices will rise. Not only that we know many of these illegals will be subsidized, that’s outside of Philadelphians, many of who rents. Over 300,000 people in Philadelphia rent. Over half of all renter households qualify as low-income. Philadelphia ranks as one of highest among major cities with a local tax rate of 12.8% for non subsidized renters and a large portion of that is driven by property taxes. This is considered one of the most regressive systems in the country. You will pay for everyone that relies on government for housing, landlords will pass the bill down to you through rising rent.

Another angle to look at - assessments chasing “market values” is just government taxing unrealized gains and making it harder for people to stay in their homes longer.

Mayor “Big money” Parker has a spending problem, taking a July 4th event that cost taxpayers $3 million dollars to $15 million dollars while budget fights, school district deficits are upon us is fiscally irresponsible. What do we get for our money, where does the money go? The wanting of a larger party and promises of statues are distractions. This man has just returned to Europe after spending a month in the United States. After traveling to over 25 countries, he says America was by far the best country he has ever visited.
