@Smith1984Jo Not at all, cuz I don't care for Aerial, or the Gquuux Gundam Designs much. But they also have actual functionality to their designs, and spacing on details.
They're better designs, and I don't care for them.
Helix just sucks.
(Also God Gundam has swords and Guns too, lol)
@Smith1984Jo Realism means nothing.
Believability, however, means everything. If even something as insane as G Gundam can have designs that look and feel more functional than the Helix, I think the problem is that the Helix just kinda sucks
@Smith1984Jo Are they details for the sake of it if they actually do things?
Should the backpack just not have any straps on it to attach anywhere?
Should there not be ammo packs on the waist so they can reload? Amuro couldn't reload, maybe he coulda used that.
@Smith1984Jo Probably because the Original Gundam didn't have a massive backpack of equipment and parachute to carry, and is a high performance model made of luna titanium alloy
The Ground Gundam and GM have the same thing, just smaller since they don't have the same equipment or armor
@Smith1984Jo The Shoulder handles being used? Did you just ignore that?
The Extra Armor put on to protect it being able to move out of the way so the feet can do things?
The crotch panels being able to move, the extra armor on the V Logo the Ground Gundam had there, and the ammo packs?
@Smith1984Jo Half of these functions are identical to the Ground Gundam, and Ground GM, and also are shown to us visually multiple times.
Most of the EZ8 is literally them covering up weaknesses in the Broken Armor the Ground Gundam had previously with more armor, and covers
@Smith1984Jo The panels on the feet are literally hinged so it’s feet can move,
The knees fold out as spikes and dig into the ground for firing stability,
The crotch flaps also have to move on hinges, and are identical to the GM and Gundam
And the shoulder handles are for field maintenance
@Vicarsolaire@PSantheran I mean, Gquuux designs don’t have many random raised details at all. They’re rather smooth and intentional
This GM looks bad too but you mostly see it from weird off angles and never get a clean look at it, so I can’t really say. It looks a lil better than the Helix at this view
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt The cool and awe in designs making sense is GP01. NT-1 Alex. EZ8. Kyrios. Pretty much any other Gundam. Details don’t make a design unless those details have a purpose. When they don’t do anything, or at the very least don’t look like they do anything, the design doesn’t work
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt The whole thing is just details for the sake of them
‘If we put a bunch of details people will think it’s gritty and realistic!’ Even though as a result it makes less sense, looks less cool, looks confusing, and is less realistic as a result
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt Why add in grooves, and big gaps between armor, and such for big alien claws to lock in and tear away armor plates
Wouldn’t it being smoother and flatter make more sense? Wouldn’t you want it to be nice solid and aerodynamic so it can move swiftly?
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt Why does an armor plate, the thing that’s supposed to deflect bullets, have big exposed screws, and raised details that don’t do anything
@Vicarsolaire@PSantheran I mean, Gundam Battle Operation 2 exists, or any Armored Core game which both don’t usually put random raised details and panel lines on armor that doesn’t have a function
Bad design is bad design regardless of style or medium. This is just a messy, overdetailed design
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt Those are panel lines, screw caps, seam lines, lights, and thrusters.
Those lines exist because stuff like the thighs can’t be manufactured as a single part, and when the Mobile suit is constructed they need to be put together. Or they’re areas where it needs to be able to move
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt The panel lines compliment the form, they show where the joints are with colors and lines,
They don’t just put a weird duck face glyph on the thighs for no reason, cuz why would someone producing a Mobile Suit make it more annoying to manufacture and clean?
@Smith1984Jo@Zobasalt You mention GP01 and GP02, but those also have open space on the design, detail separation, color separation, structure, shape and rhythm. Thats how any good vehicle or mecha is designed
