Offering a complete-street vision to inspire a conversation about transforming the 17th Ave SW Red Mile into the ultimate gathering place. #yyc#yycbike#yyccc
Hello #yyc. We've created a complete street vision for the 17th Ave 'Red Mile' that we're hoping #yyccc will adopt however this is also about starting a conversation about what's possible for the corridor. Let us know what your ideas are for #redmileyyc

And yet instead of working to solve these serious issues, Councillor McLean and his @commfirstyyc pals are focusing their time and energy on battling 10 year old bike lanes downtown. Calgarians should elect serious people willing to tackle the serious issues, not BikeLane McLean
Have you had enough of this Crime and Social Disorder?
My Truck got stomped on this time but sadly I see worse things Regularly across our City.
It’s time to get serious about this problem and Safe Supply, and Supervised Consumption are NOT part of the solution!
Alberta has a bigger measles outbreak than the entire US, a growing homeless population battling addiction & mental illness + over-crowded schools & hospitals. All of those are provincial jurisdictions which is why @Alberta_UCP wants everyone focused on municipal bike lane issues
This is an exciting announcement & a great investment in our city by @Trumanhomes. Now is the time for #yyccc to give 1st St SE a main-streets makeover that includes #yycbike infrastructure & a better public realm to improve access to downtown & the rivers for these hotel guests
NEW: Truman and Marriott International have announced plans to open 3 new hotels including a W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary and an Autograph Collection Hotel on Stampede Park to open in 2028, 2029, and 2030.
The plans include 2 towers set to be tallest in Western Canada.
@jeff_marsh@cityofcalgary There isn't an accessible ramp due to the fact that the north side of the overpass is serviced by a public elevator which is arguably better than a ramp. Perhaps signage could be improved to make that more obvious if people are only seeing the stairs though.
@CalgaryMLC@kourtpenner @yycARTS @cityofcalgary@YourAlberta@GH3architects This is extremely welcome news indeed. Very happy that the design delivers on both form and function. A refrigerated rink, along with the spectacular fountains will ensure this area serves as a needed year-round downtown draw for families from across #yyc. Kudos to all involved.
@AdamMacVicar Any mention of an ice plant/refrigeration to ensure the outdoor rink actually has good quality ice and can survive chinooks? That was one of Olympic Plaza's biggest strengths. No refrigeration means we're essentially getting a fancier version of a backyard rink with crappy ice.

So @LiveWire_DK reports that the new Event Centre will have 340 toilets and this will help avoid the issues seen up in Edmonton with Roger's Place. Only problem is this Global piece says Roger's Place has 485 toilets. A design fail in the making? #yyccc

"If we make any changes, are we going to kill the thing?"
Calgary Planning Commission green lights Event Centre development permit.

@CalgaryMLC Are there any plans to complete the protected #yycbike lanes along 9th Ave or to extend the RiverWalk further south towards the Stampede grounds? We were under the impression both projects were intended to be completed over the last 4 years but perhaps we were wrong?

Folks in the #yycbike community know the answer... bike lanes reduce congestion and boost area businesses. If only the folks on #yyccc worked to solve Calgary's traffic woes based on facts instead of snappy soundbites.

Another good reminder that the people on #yyccc that argued Stephen Avenue needed to be opened back up to cars at night probably haven't actually been down to Stephen Avenue at night for a long time.
#yycwalk#yycbike
It's exciting to see work beginning on this but anyone who has been to MNP recently knows the parking lot is often jammed with cars. The launch of the expansion means #yyccc should also launch construction on the 1 St SE #yycbike cycletrack to boost access

A few years ago we pitched a similar idea to the @cityofcalgary downtown strategy team. They were enthusiastic about the concept & started working internally to get it done. Happy to see the idea pay off with the launch of RiverHall. Perfect location for #yycwalk & #yycbike folks
The So Long Summer series starts tonight!
Live music, food vendors, picnic sites & more! All family and dog-friendly!
📍Lot 6: 311 8 Street S.W. (Temporarily renamed River Hall)
📅 Tonight! And then Thursdays - Saturdays, 11 AM - 10 PM until September 28.)
Important to note as #yyccc looks to expand our 5A network. The emergency response line is one that opponents love to bust out, especially for roads downtown.
#yycbike
No, road diets don't slow emergency responders.
That's the conclusion of this new study from Iowa, which found "no difference in emergency response" before and after road diet implementation.
